A321 Seat Pitch On BA

Thu Dec 16, 2004 6:21 am

I noticed today in BA's High Life magazine that EuroTraveller seat pitch on their new A321s is just 30" - barely more than most charter airlines. Does anyone know why this is and whether BA is quietly planning to reduce pitch on their other European aircraft?

I think 30-31" is normal on BA short haul aircraft, I think the BA A321s will be configured the same as GT 's A321s.

I know that 31" is normal on the other types but the A321 is the only aircraft shown in High Life with 30" pitch.

I couldn't find anything on ba.com, when booking the last page describes the seat pitch as 30-31".
The BA seat is well designed and more comfortable than some charter aircraft, I think BA intends to use the A321 on short fairly fat routes so I doubt they will get many complaints.
GT 's A321s may be slightly more generous with pitch because this aircraft is operated on their LGW-TCI routes and other routes over 2.5 hours in duration.

Flew on one of these a/c a few weeks ago LHR-AMS-LHR in the same day, on the morning flight outbound they made the point that it was one of the very first flights for that aircraft!

They're using a new seat design on the A321, it's a lot thinner than the other seats used on the shorthaul fleet, but still feels very comfortable. All seats are blue leather, different shade than the ones on the A319/320s though. Overall both were excellent flights!

By the way, it was commented on this board a few months ago that the 321s wouldn't have drop-down LCD screens; I can confirm that they do. However BA didn't have the safety demo video for the A321 produced, so they had to do this manually. After takeoff the LCDs were used for the Airshow map though as usual.

I believe BA have their 321s in a 193 seat layout, compared to other airlines who I bleive put around 160-175 in their 321s

The 737 aircraft also have a seat pitch of 30", it was still comfortable though Big thumbs up

Since the 321 will be/is used on short-haul routes, like 40-minute flights from LHR to both BRU and AMS, the pitch is not that important at all, but then you would have paid quite a bit to fly BA, so...
