Help With This Plane

Sat Dec 18, 2004 5:05 am

Hey,

I was going through photos and I came across this picture below, that I like and thought I might see if it would make it to airliners.ner, but then I realized I had no Registration for the aircraft.

So I am asking if anyone knows what this reg could be, the aircraft is not a common livery and is probably the only one like itself, so I would have thought it would not be hard to find it out, there are no photos of this plane on airliners.net. Also is there a Website that could maybe help me out?

Thankyou

My guess would be that it is Britten Norman test plane as you can see "BN" near the nose and they made Islander series aircraft, such as those operated by Scottish carrier Loganair in the 1970s & 1980s.

In fact, my first ever flight may have been in one of these as it was Glasgow to Campbeltown. I've never found out what it may have been. Maybe ScottishLaddie or GlaGaz may know (sorry if syntax is wrong), This would have been around 1975, I know my first jet ride was a 727.

Cheers

I will check at home my booklet with lots of pictures of BN aircrafts. If picture of this one is in there then I will post registration later. One more thing, where this picture was taken and when?

This simply is the manufacturers "demonstrator" aircraft (hence the white painting -to avoid frequent repainting).
BN offers it for trial use to potential customers.
So you probably "catched" it with no reg because it returned from a "trial-lease". Remember the Isle of Wight is not far from Bournemouth so a "storage" at BOU between 2 customers is not surprising! Usually the aircraft gets a reg from the country of the customer so they probably just deleted the reg from the last customer...
You can also check the BN-homepage. There you can see also this a/c...

It is great to see a Britten-Norman Islander picture of long ago. I flew both the Islander and Trislander in the mid 70's as a copilot at Tavina.

You can ask and contact the folks at Britten-Norman about their Islander here at the following links.

http://www.britten-norman.com

Or the Britten-Norman historians page at

http://www.bnhistorians.co.uk

I've got help from BN historians  Smile I have picture of this aircraft but also without visible reg number.

"This was the then demonstrator aircraft G-OBNG (c/n 2300). To date this has
been the only aircraft with the new style B-N logo. 2300 was sold to German
operator FLN as D-IFUT in July 2004. It would seem likely that if a new
demonstrator is commissioned the logo would appear again."

@ European...

If you go to www.britten-norman.com and then click on (aircraft - pre-owned) aircraft for sale you´ll get a list of a/c availlable. Then click on the first image and you´ll get another photograph of the "white" one... (incl. at least a part of it´s original reg.)

Jimmi,

I have advice for you to use in the future. Evidently, looks like you are shooting digital. Next time make sure that you take picture of aircraft from the side so you can see reg number. You don't have to shoot perfect picture. Just one for your records.
Thats why I have hundreds of pictures of American Airlines tails, so I wont miss registration.

Good luck uploading this picture. It should get in because in its way this picture is rare. Make sure to select "Factory colors" on the upload page.

Take care,
Rafal
