AirTran's SRQ Debut

Sun Dec 19, 2004 6:01 am

Interesting article:

I wish them the best of luck. I wish I could have made it out to see the first arrival, but that's life.

Boston's counter also has that clouds and sky background with 717's.

I hope FL does well at SRQ - more competition should bring down SRQ's fares and I won't have to fly into TPA and drive down to Bradenton. Yeah, it's only an hour, but it would still be nice to have the SRQ option.

What I'd really like to see is a non-stop from LGA or JFK to SRQ...Mr. Neeleman, are you listening?  Smile

I see a jetBlue entry into the SRQ market very likely. It probably will not happen until the E190s go into service, but if AirTran proves as successful as they have been saying they have been (booking-wise), maybe they might make their move a little sooner. Continental seems to have no problem filling their MD-80s on the SRQ-EWR flights, and bear in mind that is with the ridiculous fares they charge. The future is starting to look very bright for SRQ

In the mid 90's UsAirways have non-stop service to and from LGA. I called it the flight from LaGarbage, that plane was always a disaster. SRQ could support alot of seasonal service. PIT, PHL, BOS and LGA are the 4 that come to mind. PHL and LGA year round would probably work. Also a return to STL would probably work as well. I hope AirTran really grows at SRQ.

Is SRQ more of a destination for midwest and east coast residents as opposed to west coast? HP I think could feed well from California through Phoenix or Las Vegas and right into SRQ.
if assumptions could fly, airliners.net would be the world's busiest airport

SRQ is a destination for the folks from the mid-west more than anything else, and I'm including Ohio. Demographics down there haven't changed over the years although there is an increase of upstate New Yorkers starting to move in. Also, Venice is one of the fastest growing cities in FL, outpacing the usual leaders like Broward and Naples. Glad we purchased when we did. Can't wait to get down there. Have to pay full price because we can't take a chance of non-reving next month.

Best of Luck to AirTran.. I hope they expand in this market, and maybe one day give us Missippians some GPT-SRQ-GPT.

CO hasn't flown MD-80s into SRQ for a while.

Airtran is using the old TWA counter and the old TWA gate. As I passed by on US-41 yesterday and could see the 717 with the big "a" with the sun shining on it. I wonder if that is EXACTLY why SRQ put them in that gate. A nice view from the road.

Oceanic, if you are going to be in Sarasota the 25th and 26th...email me.
I feel woozy....what did you put in that Pudding Pop?

Really? I've been away too long LOL

I'll be in SRQ on the 25th to visit the folks for Christmas, but I'll be leaving that night to head back to Orlando. I've got work at 8AM the 26th. Blah.

It seems like that picture is incomplete... Why can us aviation photographers take better pictures than the press???
