A Big High 5 To United

Mon Dec 20, 2004 6:36 am

Just have to compliment the folks at United. Arrived in SFO on Friday only to find an item of luggage was missing, after a bit of hassle was told just to carry on to IAD and then lodge a lost baggage notification there. Got to IAD only to find another item had been lost - seems something had happened in SFO, however by the mid morning the next day UA had hand delivered it to our front door. Very impressed with them for that level of customer service!

Glad to hear about your positive experience with UA!

United has invested millions in what they call "bull's eye" scanner technology. That means the bar code on your bag tag gets scanned when you check in, when the bag is loaded on your first flight, when it's loaded on your connecting flight, and when it's delivered to your destination airport. The machine beeps if a bag is being put on the wrong plane and, theoretically, anyone at UA knows exactly where your bag is at any time, even if it is misplaced.

I don't understand why all airlines don't do this. A while bag, my bag was lost on another carrier (who shall remain nameless, but who is dismantling their DFW hub). When I filed a report, they asked me what my bag looked like and said they'd let me know if and when it showed up. They had no idea where my bag was, when it was misplaced, or when it would get to me. Gee, thanks.

UA lost a piece of your luggage not once, but twice...

and you give them a high 5....

dude, something must be wrong with you. Them delivering you luggage at home is nothing but them doing their job. period.

I'd sue them if I was an American!

If I remember correctly, it is mandatory for all airlines that are members of IATA to locate and then deliver missing/misplaced piece of luggage to the address the passenger provides them. Nothing out of ordinary for United to do this, still they deserve a praise for doing their job well.
