Royal Air Maroc - Trans Atlantic

Mon Dec 20, 2004 2:33 pm

How are Royal Air Maroc doing on their Casablanca - New York route?

What aircraft do they use, and frequency? Doesn't this flight continue to YYZ?

Thanks,

...thank you, FLYYUL.

Wanted more of a commentary on the answer than what royalairmaroc.com has provided me with...

they fly the 767-300 on the route, which brings up the question...where do their beautiful 744 go??

I think that their 744 (CN-RGA) was an aircraft manufactured for Air France but never taken up.

now that i am looking in the database a bit, it seems as though it hasn't been photographed since September.

Mostly pictured at GVA, BRU and CMN, occasionally at JFK.

Not sure what the status on it is. According to airfleets, it is still active. Perhaps it is reserved for royal flights nowadays?

but anyway, the 763s are doing the CMN-JFK routes, CN-RNS and CN-RNT.

not sure how the service is but I believe one a.net member is flying on them CMN-JFK on the second leg of a trip originating in TIP. Maybe we can get a trip report  Big grin

We're seeing the AT 744 quite often indeed here at BRU, and it's a bit odd to be operating this aircraft on such routes. I believe that the JFK flights do not support enough frequencies to monopolize the aircraft. They used to fly to Montreal also but don't know anything about that. Also, it happens often than the aircraft is not even coming in from CMN but from other places like Oujda.

AirxLiban (Aaah! I'll fly back to BEY on Thursday night!), I remember seeing the AT 744 at BEY like 2 years ago (during the night). Not sure whether it was a regular flight or a (royal) charter though.

Christian I wish I could come with you! I am miles away here in Los Angeles and am missing Lebanon very much.

Would also have loved to see their 744 at BEY. BEY is the breeding ground for all these 32Xs and 737s etc so it is great to see any widebody come in, especially from the west, from where most airlines send these narrow bodies.

regarding regular flight or royal charter i am also wondering what the deal is with their service. hopefully someone else can shed some light on this?

enjoy your time in Beirut, AirxLiban.

Ah, Morocco. I envy you if you are going to fly to Casablanca. The girl who broke my heart lives there. I know it wasn't mean to be, but I miss her a lot. Anyway, sorry for the digression and have a great trip. Big thumbs up

See..

A quick visit to their website, would yield information about their current schedules.

For example,

This winter:

RAM is flying JFK-CMN 6 weekly
RAM is flying YUL-CMN 5 weekly

All with the 763s, no disrespect here, just general advice to avoid redundant threads.

SFOMEX,

Sorry to hear about your story. I married a Moroccan girl. Been there a few times always took AZ since its easier from YYZ. I did take RAM but it was a 757 from LHR.

What happened to the CMN-GIG route on AT?.......I Remember booking passengers via CMN to GIG (RIO) about 12 years ago or so.

Well, FLYYUL, I find this a rather general topic so I wouldn't target FLY777UAL for a redundant thread, unless of course there is already such a general one.

FLY777UAL, as sort of noted by FLYYUL, the thread title is a bit unspecific, maybe "Does AT Still Fly Their 744 Transatlantic" would've done the trick.

Back to the topic, since it's quite general, don't you think that besides the prestige a 744 service into JFK brings to an airline, it isn't a better choice by AT to fly a 763 and get closer to daily return trips on the route? I guess they, like most airlines, have come to realize that it takes dailies to attract business customers who may otherwise be tempted to fly a bit North before crossing the Ocean.

Especially if you consider that CMN-JFK is barely longer - when not shorter or equal - than the distance between Western European hubs and the Big Apple, where a lot of competition dailies will make AT feel the pinch of reduced frequencies over sheer aircraft size. The 744 can only be justified for its economies of scale on this distance if and only if you do fill the jumbo jet.

I had actually intended for the topic to be very general (hence why I didn't ask about 744's at all...), mainly just to see what type of information people would dump on here.

I got varied information from a few sources which provided me with random details I most likely would have not gotten. The thread worked fine.
