IIRC they are talking about additional ATRs as well, including ATR72-500s. Anyway, a nice deal. Split would be interesting if only A320s or other members of the family as well.

Wow..that is good news I guess. From what I hear Air Deccan offers a fairly decent product. I'm glad that they are expanding.

I vaguely remember that the Indian financial Budget make is very expensive for Indian carriers to buy new aircrafts. Does anybody remember what the tax rates were. I also remember that there was a big hu-ha about this and there were talks of removing this tax. Any update on that front will be appreciated.

thanks.

I suspect this might be the deal Kingfisher finalised with Airbus for 10 320s plus 20 options.

@Jasepl:

Both Air Deccan's managing director G.R. Gopinath and John Leahy (Airbus Chief Commercial Officer) confirmed this story so it cannot be referring to Saturday's Kingfisher deal.

Sorry Teahan! It's weird though that both deals are so similar!

It sure is Jasepl. The first time I saw the Air Deccan report I thought the same as you.

Airbus are doing a pretty fine job sweeping up all these orders.

That could be termed as a "mild understatement" !! What I find interesting with Kingfisher and now Air Deccan is that both requirements/orders seem to have been upsized from their initial requirement. Is this in anyway related to Government restrictions/legislation that could affect procurement and the carriers are ordering while they can?

Airbus are doing great! Even if it were true, nothing wrong with accepting smaller profits than none at all, if you ask me!

I'm not sure. There was something about some tax the government are to start levying at some future date; maybe that's got comething to do with it.

Gr8 news! Airlines like Deccan and the APEX schemes introduced by the full-fare carriers have turly expanded the market. The rush on many routes is unbelievable! Flights as far ahead as Jan-29th are sold out!

But i thik Air Deccan should proceed with caution. India is not america. Our Aviation History is littered with many examples of airlines which grew too fast for their own good only to fall flat later. (East WEst, Damania etc).

Not that I disagree with you, but American history is studded with equally many rapid-ascent-rapid-descent airlines as well. Valujet comes to mind as the most high profile of the lot....

I disagree with the Demise of the above.
East west sunk after its MD was eliminated, the other Three Brothers of the Wahid family had their own business & were not keen on its Mgmt.
Damania was very Sucessful & was sold to Skyline NEPC.

Yes Agreed Skyline NEPC,NEPC sunk due to bad mgmt,& Modiluft due to differences with Lufthansa.

Air Deccan Is a good start to LCC in India,Hopefully they do well.
