US Rolls-out New Ticket Jacket

Tue Dec 21, 2004 1:14 pm

I'm the first to stand-up for US but I experienced something that tells me I should REALLY rethink my loyalty. My wife and I were flying the past week from CHA-CLT-PHL. CHA (being a tiny station) doesn't have kiosks and for some reason web check-in wouldn't let me check-in and print boarding passes online, so I got the the counter to get my boarding passes.

The CSA printed my boarding passes and stapled them to a piece of paper. The guy then meticulously folded the paper so it looked like a jacket. On one side it had all the stadard regs (limited liability, baggage policy, Warsaw Convention stuff, yadda yadda yadda) and the other side had my boarding passes stapled to it.

It looked VERY cheap. I would have preferred no jacket at all. Are they through printing US ticket jackets or was CHA just out of them?

I have seen the same thing here in GSO. I was told by a US employee that the company that produces the tkt jackets will not produce anymore until US is out of BK. So instead US is printing all the regulations and rules that are normally on the tkt jackets on sheets of paper and having the agents hand them to pax.

In Charlotte they aren't using ticket jackets anymore, you just get the boarding passes. But that isn't something that is going to make me rethink my loyalty, if it helps them save a few dollars, more power to US; now if they start handwriting the boarding passes a la Tower Air, then that will be something else.

Any new ticket jackets for US Airways should have hourglasses on them with sand slowly trickling out...  Big grin

Interesting, I flew US Airways last Wednesday (LGA-PHL-PBI) and I was given the same standard ticket jacket they have been using since I started flying on the carrier regularly.

Supplies may have been running short. If it is because they are trying to save money, I give them credit for it!

We'll I can confirm PHL and FLL doesn't have them. Got just the boarding passes at both airports.

PIT doesn't have them either.

I will note, however, that US ran out of ticket jackets a few years ago as well.

No disrespect intended, but why do you determine loyalty based on ticket jackets? They, like so many things in commercial aviation today, will probably disappear in a few more years. Any why should anyone care if US wants to save some money by using a cheap facisimilie of a jacket?

I suspect in the end it won't matter anyway. I doubt now that US will be around past mid-January, if they can make it that far. So you might as well start looking for another carrier. How many are there at CHA?

Contrails, you will of course own up to that statement in 3-4 weeks, right? Care to make a friendly wager?

A couple other major airlines are talking about getting rid of them for domestic flights and only use them for intl pax very soon.

Supa7E7, if I am wrong I will certainly own up to it. It is my sincere hope that I am wrong and that US has a long and happy future.

As for a wager, I'm cashing in my US miles because I wasn't willing to bet on being wrong.

The new jackets have a little pouch in the front for donations.
