Could MX Or Am Service Europe From CUN With B757

Tue Dec 21, 2004 10:26 pm

Just wondering if Aeromexico or Mexicana ever considered servicing Europe with the B757. Cancun to the UK, Lisbon, or even Madrid could be done.

No--not without a stopover in Gander or elsewhere. The longest blocked time I've seen for the 757 is about 8hrs. Cancun to Europe is pushing 10-12hrs easy.

I think a stop in Gander or elsewhere would be worth it. Its a lucrative market

Would they have to follow the US coast up to Canada and Greenland, or is it a straight shot from CUN?

Whilst studying at uni last year, i did my dissertation on aviation (naturally!) and whilst doing my research i read that MX was considering CUN-MAN/LGW services for summer 2005, dont know if they still have these plans. On a side note, AM have slots reserved at LGW for a 3x weekly service for MEX, but they have deferred starting a service for 18 months due to an aircraft shortage!

Who would like to spend 11+ hrs on board a narrow, single-aisle aluminum capsule with 3+3 seating and the most basic IFE???

I flew twice the roundtrip MX 1691/1690 flights CUN-EZE-CUN (blocked at 09:20 Hrs), and believe me, unless you are seated in J class, or are able to grab a full 3-seat row for yourself, it is NOT a pleasant experience, even for an a.nut.

I'm glad MX has switched this service to MEX-EZE-MEX using a B763ER...

Plus... A B757 Wouldn't make the jump from CUN, unless a refueling stop is made... Gander or the Azores could be likely stops... However, MX and AM are both in the process of gradually getting rid of their B757's and replacing them by other a/c...

Cheers,
__Ad.

Juventus,

From CUN to Europe in a straight shot does follow the US coast to Canada and Greenland. Look it up on a globe.

Horsesquat.

Having done a fair number of 752 transoceanic flights myself, they're no different whatsoever from the widebodys (in fact, better in J). Whatever tricks yer lil' mind chooses to play about your perceived space is your problem to deal with, not the aircraft's  Nuts

Could it be done maybe.... Will it be done most likely not. With AM acquiring the 777's that frees up there 767's somewhat to do that route if it is needed. Also MX has the 763's that they fly up to LAX daily, or at least they send one up, that could probably do that route.

Don't various European charter airlines do flights into CUN (LTU, Condor, MyTravel, etc...)? Could AM or MX compete against those flights?

As far as I know, LTU flies in A330s to CUN, Condor flies in 763s, and so could a flight from a local airline survive against them? Please feel free to correct me if my logic is flawed.

Thanks,
Alex

Yes local flights could survive against them only because they are owned by the Mexican government and there is a lot of traffic between Mexico and Europe. But if they were to fly the 757 I think that would hurt them a little bit. Also cargo.... wouldnt it be mre profitable to operate the 767 because it has more cargo space...or can you even ship between Mexico and Europe?
