LH Sommer Schedule 2005

Wed Dec 22, 2004 12:38 am

Hello,

here some changes to LH's sommer schedule 2005:
- new daily service Frankfurt-Canton-Manila operated with A340-600 (Flight LH 744)
- Jakarta will be served daily via Bangkok with B747-400 (Flight LH 778), not via Singapore as the years before. Singapore gets a daily flight from Frankfurt with B747-400 (Flight LH 776)
- LH will bring the B747-400 four times a week to Philadelphia, on the other three days A340-300
- A330-300 will be used on flights to Washington (LH 416) and Detroit (LH 442)
- Munich-Shanghai will be served daily with A340-300 (LH 726)
- new service Frankfurt-Port Harcourt-Abuja three times a week with A330-300
- No more A340-600 on Frankfurt-Toronto (LH 470) and Frankfurt-Vancouver (LH 492). Here we will see a daily B747-400 on both routes
- Caracas and Nagoya will be served daily with A340-300 from Frankfurt
- Munich-Delhi (4/7, A340-300) and Munich-Tehran (5/7, A340-300) will be increased, both routes currently are operated 3/7 with A340-300
- the flights Munich-Dubai will be cancelled
- nonstop service Frankfurt-Cape Town three times a week with A340-300, the other days one-stop service Frankfurt-Johannesburg-Cape Town with B747-400.

When is LH going back to GIG non-stop. GIG is now served daily with the 747-400 with a stop-over in GRU.

FRA-CAN-MNL is a highlight. Good that they bring a nonstop to CAN. Will the y get 5th freedom rights CAN-MNL?

LH will send an A330-300 to IAD as LH 418/419.

No, LH418/419 will remain a B744 whereas LH 416/417 (as DABVF put it right) will become an A333 service (this one arrives in IAD at 01:40pm)

No MUC-YYZ? darn!
What are they using on FRA-HYD (starts Feb '05), probably a 343?

Kaz,

why should LH fly MUC-YYZ when AC already does this route. I don't think there is enough demand for two daily flights. Remember that AC's flight isn't even daily year round.

it´s interesting to see how LH is now focussing on BKK as a regional hub. assuming that all BKK-bound flights arrive there at a similar timing, this will also allow pax originating from MUC to switch planes in BKK to CGK and vice versa (SGN, KUL).
If only pure sweetness was offered, why's this bitter taste left in my mouth.

Absolutely correct!
But I figured that maybe with the "shortage" of a/c at AC that maybe we might see LH metal on that route. Big grin

Does anyone think LH might someday start non-stop DEN-MUC flights? I've heard the passenger levels on the flights from DEN to FRA are real good and are always full.

Any chance the second daily A333 flight to Cairo (LH652/588) will become aterminator services like LH582? Currently the flights continue to Sanaa (Yemen) and Khartoum (Sudan).

Kaz,

I think that another problem for LH is, that they don't have the fitting aircraft for such a market. Their smallest A/C is the A330 or A340. A 767 which AC uses is perfect for this route.

Why do they fly to Port Harcourt first and then back to Abuja? The flight from Frankfurt to Port Harcourt would have them pass alomst directly over Abuja. Wouldn't it save money to fly the other way around?

Why will LH use a 747-400 on the FRA-PHL route three to four times a week? Is there not enough demand with their A340-300 and the US A330?

EWR:

US is now a Star Alliance member, now providing numerous connecting oppurtunities out of PHL for LH. DEN being a major UA STAR hub also has 744s summer only. At least that's the way it seems to me.

Of course, the above is dependent on US' survival. Hopefully they pull through and benefit from this.

@Iluv:

I heard that they this way can offer perfect helicopter connections to the offshore oil fields.
Other carriers from Europe alos fly nonstop to Port Harcourt. So an stop in Abuja would mean two stops with LH if you have to connect in FRA, while others can bring you with one stop .

By the looks of it, BOS will be going all A340-300s for the summer schedule: 2x FRA; 1x MUC. Any chance of seeing a A330-300 slip in once in awhile?

That's what I keep waiting for. Why not continue the tradition BOS has of having one of the highest levels of A330 traffic in a non-hub airport in North America. With EI, AF, NW, and LX, a look at Terminal E on a given afternoon looks pretty homogeneous.  Smile

I would love to see either the 333 or 346 start coming to BOS though.

I am happy to hear that the MUC-THR flights will increase to 5x weekly. I didn't think this was going to be a successful route. I thought additional FRA-THR flights, or upgrading LH600 from a A343 to a B744 would make more sense.

What do you think???

To put it into simple terms: LH would like to do a lot more flights, but currently they are lacking the equipment. The recent add-on order for 7 A340-600 is a slight relief as it will allow A340-300s to trickle down the ladder and to open up new/beef up existing routes. The biggest relief will only come when the A380 starts to be introduced (rumour is that LH is already looking to convert some options to secure some earlier delivery slots).

What is on the agenda?
- more flights to China (to be doubled by 2008)
- more flight to India (minimum 50% frequency growth)
- more flights to South-East Asia (i.e. KUL)
- ...

But again, no capacity available.

When is LH going back to GIG non-stop.

As far as I know, they're looking at it for Winter 2005. That doesn't mean it is going to happen though. There's a lot of projects they're currently looking into.

Will the y get 5th freedom rights CAN-MNL?

Unlikely to happen, which is a shame. They have 5th freedom rights BKK-MNL right now, and I presume they will have 5th freedom rights BKK-CGK.

Will FRA-IAH still be an A340?

Yes, daily. Don't expect anything fance to happen to this route until Continental gets its act together and opens a long overdue IAH-FRA route.

Does anyone think LH might someday start non-stop DEN-MUC flights? I've heard the passenger levels on the flights from DEN to FRA are real good and are always full.

FRA-DEN is reverting to the B744 for the summer, and I know that MUC-DEN is being looked into, but, as above, many projects are being looked into.

How does the YUL-MUC schedule look like?

Looks like operating 6 weekly and 7 weekly during July and August with a two-class A343.

Munich-Beijing, still no daily?

Thrice weekly, but if you count the CA codeshare, then it would be six weekly, as CA is thrice weekly with B763ER.

I gues if LH is sending a 744 to YVR there will be no YVR-MUC in summer 2005?

Not scheduled to operate, but remember that Lufthansa added this route last year at the very last minute. It all comes down to airframe availability it seems.

Forgot to add a couple of personal remarks to my previous post:

Mexico

It seems that MEX will effectively be downgraded this summerseason, from 10 weeklo operations to daily. I don't really understand why and whether LH is planning to reinstate the 3 extra frequencies next winter. Or is there a surprise MUC-MEX in the pipeline?

Manila

I feel LH will have no choice but to eventually go back nonstop to MNL if they want to remain competitive with the KL/AF group. I don't see this CAN-MNL as anything but a temporary solution. CAN will soon deserve a flights of its own. Interesting to see how MNL will loose F-class service with the introduction of the A346.

South Africa

Although a downgrade from the winter schedule, South Africa is still up in terms of last summer's operations. Expect double B744 flights next winter, though. CPT operations are exceeding all expectations.

A346

The A346 is back on MUC-SFO and remains of MUC-BKK-SGN/KUL. The airframes based in FRA are scheduled for the CAN-MNL, EZE-SCL, ICN and KIX runs. No 744 for ICN this summer.

A332

Two airframes remain in the fleet. CAI, TLV, BAK are some of the airports that will see these aircraft deployed. The first aircraft is scheduled to leave at the end of September, though.

I'm not quite surprised with the cancellation of the MUC-DXB route. I never understood why LH operated this flight in the first place.
About that nonstop GIG flight: RG starts a MUC-GIG flight (via Sao Paolo) in february 4 times per week with MD-11. And RG is also Star Alliance. I wonder if there will be a market for a direct GIG flight from FRA when there are two flights from two LH hubs? Anyone does have more info on that?

And when does MUC-DTW come?!?

Btw: Does anyone know how the MUC-CLT route is doing?

Thank you for your analysis of the situation, it is very much appreciated.

A scheduling concern for you, LH474 to YUL is estimated to arrive at 18:05 yet estimated to depart YUL LH475 at 19:05.

A 1-hour turn for an A343 at YUL  Wow!

Interesting to see how MNL will loose F-class service with the introduction of the A346.

Why would this be any surprise? Allocate assets where they can generate the most revenue. Sample return airfares in unrestricted (F) First Class on Lufthansa converted to US dollars and Euros:

Tokyo - Frankfurt $15,626 - €11,675
Singapore - Frankfurt $8,403 - €6,278
Hong Kong - Frankfurt $7,880 - €5,888

and

Manila - Frankfurt $5,526 - €4,129

I dont think BOG is in the making.

It basically doesnt make sense to continue an A340-300 service. That means FRA-CCS-BOG is IMHO totally out of the question. Reason for this is in my opinion the size of the aircraft, as the extra amount of passengers doesnt pay for the leg CCS-BOG and vv.

Latest press release:

LH will double flights to GRU to TWO DAILY FLIGHTS as of 18 Feb/05, as follows:

FROM GRU TO FRA:
Flights LH503 LH527
GRU 16:15 19:40
FRA 6:25+1 10:15+1
Equip B747-400 A340-600
Classes FCM CM

FROM FRA TO GRU
Flights LH502 LH526
FRA 22:10 22:45
GRU 7:00+1 8:05+1
Equip B747-400 A340-600
Classes FCM CM

 Wow!

This is a major investment in Brazil! As I predicted, possibly LH will also start daily nonstop FRA-GIG!

Here will be the total flights Germany-Brazil as of Feb/05:

FRA-GRU LH 747-400, daily
FRA-GRU LH A340-600, daily
FRA-GRU RG 777-200, daily
FRA-GIG, RG MD-11, daily
MUC-GRU, RG MD-11, 4 x week

32 flights per week! And I'm not counting the possible nonstop LH FRA-GIG!

Is all this movement because of the huge German colony in South Brazil  Smile ??

Hardi

I'm glad to see CCS has turned into daily. They broguth the 747 for a coupel of days into CCS, anyone caught it?

DEN is being served right now (or was for a while) with the 346, hopefully DEN-MUC occurs in the near future.

FRA-AUA, WOW that is a surprise, was KLM the only airline that served AUA-Europe (besides the chrater airlines)?

And don't forget that there's UA's service MUC-IAD-DEN. Departure boards in MUC always show 'UA903 Washington-DEN' as the flight, although Denver is not listed in the official destinations of MUC.

So how about Bangkok?

Daily 744 (LH 778/9)FRA-BKK-CGK
Daily 346 (LH 772/782 LH 773/783) MUC-BKK-KUL/SGN?

Remains 2x daily to BKK and F is eliminated from MNL, right? MNL F loads were poor, so understandable. Although that was a route where I planned to use 2x F awards in the near future.

The new timetable to MNL can only be temporarily. When CAN has enough traffic in its own, the leg to MNL will be rescheduled. BKK-MNL had 5th freedom rights which they don't have from CAN.
Maybe 2006 SIN can get an MUC flight extended to CGK, and MNL can be rrerouted via BKK.

Yes, BKK-MNL has 5th freedom but also low yields. Premium cabins are almost always empty and Y is filled with el cheapo W fares. MNL faces (faced) the competition from Kuwait, AF and Egypt on the BKKMNL sector. BKK-CGK could be more profitable if LH gets the rights - only a daily TG A300, 1-stop TG 772 and daily GA 733.

BKK on the other hand can support dailies from both FRA and MUC.

There is also the possibility, that LH will once extend its flight MUC-HKG to MNL. It stands empty around in HKG for 7 and 1/2 hours. I think it would be easier to get 5th freedom rights HKG-MNL than CAN-MNL. But so far the MUC flight is only 3times weekly and can't be coupled with the FRA flight.
