Trump 727's Registration...?

Wed Dec 22, 2004 9:59 am

Why is Trump's 727 not registered with an N-number? It is currently registered VP-BDJ and was VR-BDJ. Is he doing this to save money on taxes? That's the only thing I could think of...

A number of bizjets (B727's, BBJ's - even a B747SP) have VP registrations, so I think it's due to taxes. Isn't VP the prefix for Grand Cayman?

VP-B** regs are from Bermuda I believe...

Aircraft registered VP-BAA to VP-BZZ belong to the Bahamas. However, there seems to be numerous countries with the prefix "VP". It all depends on the first letter of the last three to determine to which country it belongs.

Doesn't VP stand for VILE PISSHEAD?

LimaFoxTango,

The ICAO registration prefix for the Bahamas is 'C6-'; VP-B** reg's are for aircraft registered in Bermuda, as USAFHummer corrctly stated.

As for the rest of the official ICAO 'VP-' designations, see below:

VP-B = Bermuda
VP-C = Caymen Islands
VP-F = Falkland Islands
VP-LMA-LUZ = Montserrat
VP-LV = British Virgin Islands

Titch, you are indeed correct. My apologies. "C6" is the new regisration prefix for the Bahamas. "VP-B**" was the old prefix used up to 1975.

So,what is the rule for Bermudan registrations? I know Aeroflot's 'western-built' planes are registered outside of Russia due to high taxes for non-russian built planes. So,does a plane that's registered in Bermuda have to have the range to reach Bermuda? Because Trump's helo is registered in the U.S.

Just curious.

I'd guess the plane is legally owned and registered by a Bermudan company that Trump owns, or he doesn't actually own the jet and it's leased from a Bermudan firm. Either way, the plane would run a Bermudan registry.

I've seen Trump's plane at LGA several times, but never noticed the registry. Usually I notice that sort of thing - first time I ever flew on Air South, the Irish registration was the first thing I noticed...

Most of "Bubbaflot"'s planes had Irish registrations, IIRC.
