PHL-MDW is completely understandable...that will definently be an ATA/WN codeshare flight.

If this is indeed true, my MDW theory about C8 is blown out of the water..

Don;t see MKE on that list so the header for the post is a little incorrect.

As I predicted ATA service to DAY is terminating. Too close to IND and Southwest already services CMH. Well, I guess we will have gate space available now for more FL flights.

So what is left for Chicago Express? I always thought they were quite an airline.

SBN is a surprise since it's C8's MX base (still?) What's left for C8 out of MDW? Appears to be GRR and FNT - guess it's only a matter of time and they'll be gone in these two markets too.....  Sad

C8 route map:

Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.

C8 is also starting service from SBN, FWA, and Evansville to IND, possibly some other locations, so that may have something to do with it. But I was definately not expecting this.

tjwgrr: SBN is still the MX base for C8, does anyone know what might happen with this now?

I haven't heard anything about DAY closing......yet. The IND schedules are already blocked out...no surprise there. Not sure of anything with the MDW flights....wouldn't be surprised either way. Thank GOD I have a college degree and another job!!!!!!

Oh BTW Dayflyer.....

We(C8) use gate C3 here in DAY....which to be nice is a piece o' crap. Conti Express has pushed us into a little cubby hole and now the airport is ripping up the pavement as well. If FL wants more gate space they can have it along the backside of Concourse C....specifically the gate being vacted by Indy Air.

no surprise with PHL. WN already announced an additional flt MDW-PHL a few weeks ago, wonder if they will add another flt or two. They will be the only airline to fly MDW-PHL. On top of that UA just dropped i believe 4 flts ORD-PHL

Correct you are. It is common practice on this forum to see regional codeshare partners of a real airline misidentified as the real airline. Perhaps the FAA will someday step in and impose 5-figure fines on posters who fail to disclose the real airline of which they speak Big grin Such fines have actually been paid by the legacies when their agents failed to disclose to callers the actual airline operating flights in cases where the airline is other than the one to whose agent the caller is speaking.

I guess I'll have to make new arrangements. I was due for FWA-MDW-FLL on 1/18. Missed by 4 days. Return flight was going through IND. I guess I'll have to change my schedule and leave the night before through IND. Going through there on the 18th didn't get me to my meeting in time. Phooey!

Well considering ATAH owns ATA and Chicago Express...I could have just said ATAH closes them since both of their airlines are closing cities. However, I dont think any of us will be shocked if C8 just turns into ATA Connection and the Chicago Express name is finally retired after over 10 years. So in other words...BLAH.  Smile

Oh well...maybe another airline will come in and start regional flights to Chicago to bring low fares to markets dominated by the majors or with no service at all.

I don't blame ATA for getting out of MKE. Every person who flies out of MKE uses either Midwest Airlines for Northwest Airlines. But I prefer using United Express connection to DEN. DEN is less crowded than ORD or MSP.

Skyway1 (Chris) - Sorry to hear about your station closing also. I find it kind of wierd that they decide to kill it after it was announced and seemed like it was a pretty good idea. I'm really confused as to what the big whigs are doing down in IND. First they said they were committed to the C8 operation, now they are axing everything. Something fishy has gone on in the past week down in IND. I know that they had a marketing meeting a week ago today and from what I had been hearing things were looking up for C8. But, I stress BUT, I think C8 was blindsided because I have been *hearing* that they are parking 1 plane for sure, and up to 7 more aircraft leaving only 10 to run the operation. IMOO, I think all companies would have been better off with the AirTran deal. C8 already had a schedule in place with both ATA and FL ready for the quick transition. Like a friend of mine said, C8 isn't going to be needed any more because WN is now going to feed the ATA flights where the most money will be made. But what I don't get, why not sell C8 off? If they are going to take the charge on parking the aircraft and laying off the employees, why not sell it off to raise money? I don't see the C8 flights making as much money as I think the company is worth.

I'm just an armchair ceo *snickers* but I just have to really question what they are doing down there in IND. Even when I was working for C8, I questioned some of the irrational (IMO) decisions they were making. Good luck to all of the C8 employees that are going to be affected. Even though I am not with the company, I still feel a part of the family because the people were so wonderful and fun. Good luck to you all!

Uh oh, my friend is flying SRQ-MDW-TOL in March on TZ and C8. I guess she is going to have to call ATA and figure something out. What would ATA do in this case?

Hopefully rebook on another airline. I have heard it being that far out they will just offer a full refund...but I would hope they would just bite the bullet and rebook on another airline. From what I hear...a lot of the flights in Feb were quite full and a lot of people already had booked on them...a lot of unhappy campers.

Hey Ryan.....

You know it's funny.....all the employees know they're toast and still the two morons in charge at C8(the employees know who they are) won't breathe a word to any of us. Our lead agent contacted one "said" person and he stated "as of that day we are still operating DAY flights." It's all amusing really, but I do feel bad because I have a few co-workers that have children and a house payment to make. I do have fun working here part-time...but it's time to move on so I really don't feel that terrible about it.

I have heard the same rumors you have.....at least dropping to 10 aircraft....laying off F/A's and ALL the F/O's. Why not get rid of the whole operation, seems logical to do that than what they have planned. I know one thing for sure.....George is a shrewd businessman who has managed to hold on to his precious little airline.

Good luck to you all in the future!

Anybody notice that MSN wasn't part of the list? Kinda suprising. May as well axe it all at the same time and just kill off everybody at once.  Sad

When I worked there MKE was always outpreforming GRR when it came to passenger numbers. It's suprising to still see GRR on the list. Then again the management at Chicago Express leaves something to be desired.

Smcmac32msn - Actually MSN was on the first list to go along with DSM.

I think that GRR and FNT are there for a few reasons. FNT mostly because there is no other direct service to MDW and if they wanted to, they could pull huge numbers on O/D traffic alone. Plus, it's FNT! I would've figured they would want to keep like TOL, DAY, DSM to MDW to offer better O/D numbers.

The only way I blame the Chicago Express management is in the fact they are played so horribly by ATA's crappy management. ATA has made (IMO) questionable calls in the past and are doing it more as we speak. I guess that's why they make the big bucks...right?

Chris - I know the feeling. When we were laid off here in TOL from AirTran, there were a few that needed the job. But...life finds a way and goes on. You don't have to speak of those 2 people  Big grin It goes from the top down to the stations...trust me! Good luck to you! Drop me an email if you're ever gonna be up this way .... I'm not going anywhere!

Thanx Ryan, I heard about it after the fact. I just laughed. I still talk with GRR on company frequency when i am up flying. There are some great employees that work for C8 and it's sad to see them get dragged through the mud like this.

Yes I know where that gate is, I have flown the Chicago connection service before and I agree the gate is a waste of time and space. Perhaps our airport manager needs a closet?  Smile

I was attempting to be humorous when I suggested FL use it as a gate, I should have clarified that for the post with a smillie. My apologies and lets hope going forward that someone besides UAL or AA takes up the Chicago service slack that ATA will leave behind here.

Ok...here goes it!

Cities C8 is closing: TOL, DAY, SPI, MKE, MLI, MSN, DSM

Cities C8 is adding: EVV, GYY (2 more to come, possibly 3)

Cities ATA is closing: MIA, CLT, PHL

Cities ATA is adding:

I hope that clarifies things for you. I'm not sure what things are going to look like in a few months for ATA but things are still looking very shaky for them.

OK, let me get this straight, C8 is not closing MKE completely? They are still keeping the recently announced MKE-IND 3 dailies right? If so I don't really see why they should even bother keeping just three saab flights, I just don't find it worth it.

MKE is not closing completely. They will still have the flights to IND for the time being. ATA announced the routes when they announced the new cities.
