2 KLM 777s At JFK?

Mon Dec 27, 2004 1:05 am

hey,

I was watching the "Big Apple" DVD from Just Planes.com. The DVD has over six hours of planes. From JFK, EWR, and LGA.

In the 6 part of the JFK video, they show PH-BQA backing out of the gate and next to it is PH-BQC.

Now I know that KLM has a flight out of JFK at 6:30 and 11:15. This footage was probaly shot in the spring/summer time becuase it was still light out at 6:30.
To my knowledge the 11:15 flight has never been opperated by the B744.

The video of the KLM 777s is from 2004.

Now My question is- Why where there two KLM 777s on the ground at the same time at JFK??

Thank You  Smile

The 11:15p departure from JFK is in fact a 744 Combi

The 6:35p departure from JFK is a 777

There have been a few times when the 744Combi was swapped with a 777. But it is extremely rare.

Hey

but the other 777 woud not have been the 11:15 flight becuase it does not arrived in JFK until later on in the night, and after the 6:35 flight has left.

Last March I flew on the 6:35 flight which was on the 777, the KLM 744 had not arrived.

In this case, the only possible solution to the "problem" is that the 744 combi was swaped that day by a 777 and that the 6:35pm flight was delayed, so that the two planes joined.

hey

my flight left at 8:00 becuase of a fog delay and still no KLM 744, so I really dont think thats a soulution.

Could it have been a training flight or the flight from SFO had a problem?

On JFKs schedule it doesn't even show the 11:15 flight!! wierd.

I think Checo77 hit the nail on the head. I remember a few years ago due to delays, diversions and mechanical problems we ended up with 5 KLM planes on the ground in AUA at the same time - three MD11's and two 747's.

A day to remember....

Last Oct I was on the 777 that took a major delay of all things for catering then mechanical then to pull a bag as a pax abandoned the flt. The 744 came in while the 777 was still there. Something about a 6 hr delay that can do that.

Well guys,

If it was not a diversion, maybe it was the previous day's flight that was postponed or something. If a flight gets delayed and the airline has no extra crew, delaying the flight for 24 hours usually is a very good option.

The afternoon flight (KL642) used to be a 747, then a few times the MD11, but now replaced with the 777.
The later flight KL642, a 747 Combi only operates 4 times weekly.
Next summer season will see the late flight operated 6 times weekly : 4 times the 747 Combi and twice a week the 7777.
