Delta's web site is showing flight 299 as being "Ready for Departure" at 7:30PM EST, 4 hours and 35 minutes late. (Scheduled departure at 3:55PM)

What "media" did you hear this from?

According with El Tiempo they diverted the flight so a passenger could be captured before leaving the US airspace; his/her name and nationality is still unkown.

That would be good but the diverted flight was from BOG to ATL. The flight was diverted to keep it from entering US airspace with the passenger on board.

Notice actual routing.

The aircraft diverted to Key West Naval Air Station.

I expect the passenger will enjoy a charter flight to a certain US base in Cuba.

Here is an article from the Key West Citizen.

It doesn't say a whole lot except that the unnamed man was on the no-fly list/terrorist watch list - they use those two terms interchangeably.

The pax was the mistaken for someone on the watch list. Acft diverted NQX, FBI pulled the pax and after a two hour delay, they were on their merry way to ATL.

How the heck did a 757 land at a runway that is only 4,800' long?

NAS Key West (NQX) not Key West Int'l (EYW).

Cory,

Read more closely. The flight didn't land at EYW, it landed at NQX....which is Navy Key West. RWY 7-25 is more than capable of handling any civilian aircraft. AA often uses NQX as a diversion point when MIA is experiencing thunderstorms on the field.

NQX as an alternate...hows that work? Wouldn't it be better to send the plane to Fort Myers, im sorry, Southwest Florida International? How often does that really happen?

I guessing you are referring to the days when the weather is in meltdown mode over the peninsula and the only good weather is over the ocean.

Here is what the DLTERM32 reads here at work:

LOF 0299/27DEC
ORG SKED ETD OUT OFF DST SKIN ETA IN DP SHIP PSG LP RMKS
ATL 1555 1800 BOG 2035*2247* 38 6903 227 DC

**FLIGHT STATUS REMARKS**
27/2017Z - ATL-EQPT CHANGE
27/1932Z - DLAD ATL..MTC
27/1913Z - DLAD ATL..MTC

And yes, that is N757AT.

Checko,

Yup, thats what I'm referring to. I doubt NQX is ever the planned alternate for MIA. But if RSW, TPA, MCO, FLL, etc...all have TSRA, NQX is in AA's ops specs as a suitable diversion point. At one point either this past summer or the one before, they had at least 5 aircraft there at one time...everything from 738's up to AB6's.
