KLM And Austrian To Add BSL/MLH

Mon Dec 27, 2004 11:38 pm

Rather interesting news:

-Austrian Airlines will add VIE-BSL/MLH operated by its daughter company Austrian Arrows. The CRJ-200 will operate the route 3x daily. With the excellent connections to Eastern destinations, OS is filling one of the big gaps remaining.

-KLM in cooperation with Air France and Northwest Airlines will open a twice daily route BSL/MLH-AMS, operated by Fokker100. It is still unknown which company will operate the flights. It seems like Air France Régional will operate the route because they are also commencing seasonal flights from BSL/MLH to Olbia, Dubrovnik and Corsica with the Fokker100.

Both routes will start effective April 4th and are currently already served 3 times a day by SWISS.

I think the speedy developpement of BSL/MLH will continue with the anticipated arrival of a future Easyjet hub.Good news for the whole region. The airport must be the only one worldwide to be used jointly by three nations ( Swiss,France and Germany).
I wish my previous home-airport,NUE , would take a similar dynamic developpement....

Yes, the current airport management is doing excellent work. They are staying in contact with airlines and work together with them. It is a good partnership between the airport and the airlines.
They have realized that it is not good to have just one big airline at the airport. Also you can clearly see a strategy:

-attracting high yield services for the local business pax
-attracting LCC service for the "mass" of people

And people finally realize that they can fly from BSL/MLH and don't need to go somewhere else.

I hope NUE will develop well in the future. I know that there is Air Berlin but NUE needs to attract more regional traffic.

Turkish Airlines will introduce a 4th weekly flight to Istanbul with B-737-800 effective March 28. A fifth weekly flight will be introduced in summer as well as scheduled flights to two other destinations in Turkey (Izmir and probably Ankara).

Also, easyJet Switzerland currently looks for pilots based at BSL/MLH (according to media reports and http://www.pilotcareercenter.com/JobResearchAirlineDetail.asp?AirlineID=348)

Keep your fingers crossed Big grin
