A380 Delivery And First Destinations

Tue Dec 28, 2004 1:15 am

Does anyone know what the delivery schedule is (where the first 50 are going?) and what destinations do these airlines plan to operate them too.

cheers

The very first aircraft goes to SQ and will be flown on SIN-LHR I believe. The whole delivery schedule has become a bit convoluted because both AF, VS delayed their deliveries several months while several new customers jumped in to grab the early slots. I don't know the precise order now that the dust has settled.

Thats what I was wondering, after the reshuffling of delivery slots and as airlines have started to announce destinations, I want to get a clearer picture of where the deliveries and destintions stand so far.

At least I know the SQ will be the first.

cheers

QF will be the second carrier, and EK the third carrier.

Initial Destinations for each carrier have been rumoured and mooted, although nothing is 100% set in concrete. SQ have confirmed they will trial the A380 on SIN-NRT, however this route is not one of the intended A380 routes for obvious reasons.

Most airlines will use high yield short hops to get crew busy and accustomed to the aircraft as many do now with their jumbos, so in asia it's easy to find high yield short hops, when airlines get the good feel of it then they put them for long haul flights.

Aussie747, seems like we've had this discussion before. Could you please provide a public a reference, other than your conversation with someone in marketing where SQ has confirmed they will trial the A380 on SIN-NRT.

Well Philsquares,

If that is not a highly qualified source then what is?. Would you like me to get it in writing!!! LOL. At least it is a source unlike most other bits of unsourced wishful tidbits that have been floating around of late.

Sure, I'd like to meet and get it in writing. I actually have a 4 day trip to MEL in Feb.

Funny thing is, I work for SQ and I'm involved in the 380. We're planning on going somewhere completely different. So, no, I don't think you're source is highly quailified with respect to the 380 and where it will be flying trying to get pilots checked out.

Boeingfever777,

Thanks for your intelligent and informative addition to the topic. However, as stated earllier, there have been a lot of changes in the delivery schedule with the delayed deliveries of AF and VS. Furthermore, the above debate about first destinations proves my point that there is some confusion about where these mammoths will be seen first in revenue service. Hence the thread to clarify. But again, sincere thanks for your input.

cheers

I wonder on which routes European operators might test their A380.

Any updates on LH's plans to grab some earlier slots for the A380?
