Five years is a long time.I thought Three years would be realistic.
And a Fleet of 20 Aircraft too.

Does this clear the way for Jet and Sahara to serve the cities AI has vacated in Europe, southeast Asia and Australia through the years? I must say quite honestly, I looked at PIAs website and was slightly embarrassed by how many more useful destinations they serve than AI. As I have put in another thread about US carriers relating to Africa, I believe airlines are ambassadors of sorts and AI's lack of presence in Europe is totally unacceptable.

I would have prefered a policy where by the guidelines should have been :

1. A minimum of 2 years domestic flying experience

2. A minimum of 5 to 7 aircraft in fleet of which a B 737 or A 320 family has to be present to enable intl medium haul flights nonstop.

These regulations put fwd by the Indian Govt are absolutely hopeless and arent consumer-business-investor friendly at all!!!

Relax folks, this gaandmasti is just another reporter leaking something from a "source" in the ministry to test the waters. Prafulbhai has become careful now that he realizes everything he does is under heavy scrutiny. The draft policy is just that - a draft. It still needs to be submitted to the cabinet for approval before it becomes policy and with the influential Communists opposed to it, don't expect anything other than status quo for now.

This also reminds me that Praful Patel "guaranteed" us a comprehensive civil aviation policy by the end of the year. He has 4 days left. I look forward to seeing his resignation announced on January 3 if he cannot deliver on his "guarantee".

Sean: Careful with your choice of words mamu!

Praful "bhai" is just acting to protect the interests of his favorite carrier 9W. All the newer entrants, with better cash flows, are eyeing the opening up of the intl sector. 9W therefore would like to restrict their entry and gain higher yields on intl sectors with little competition.

I try to be more diplomatic than you Roy, but I largely agree with your assesment. Praful Patel's policymaking while serving as minister has largely been skewed to the advantage of certain private sector interests at the expense of other private sector interests, state-owned entities and the market as a whole. This is simply another example in a long chain of similar actions.

How true. I also will sit at the edge of my seat the next 72 hours awaiting to learn of the comprehesnive new course of Indian aviation. And given his "guarentee" I also anticipate a resignation if no such plan is put forward!

Ok Mel.. you're appointed as Director Technical to ensure that no Indian guys will have to ever carry a rusted bucket. All those who vote in my favour get plum posts (Sean... you'll be CMD AI). Why, I'd even appoint Roy as Director Audit (only he'll have to pass the CAT exams). After all with Liberty, Equality and Fraternity - another 'weird' is possible. Big grin

By the way Patel is not going to resign in a hurry. From what I've heard, for starters he's going to the USA on 06JAN accompanying Big Daddy Pawar who's going for his treatment. Thereafter he will participate in the Indo-US aviation bilaterals scheduled from 12 or 13JAN. No way I see him giving up Civil Aviation anytime now.

The problem with Indian Aviation is not just a Patel. As long as we have coalition governments cobbled together with parties of opposing ideologies and political interests, any serious development will take a back seat. What we will have is motivated, greed driven, uncoordinated growth which will never let us improve our lot.

What we need are qualified, educated folk like our PM, unfettered by political alliance considerations running every ministry and the key positions within. Then and only then will we have a chance of real development in aviation.

If this rule were applied to everyone operating to India, then SriLankan Cannot fly to India. Also How many a/c's does AI own?35 is not too much including the leased a/c's. But anyway the rules are meant only for domestic carrirers only, a fleet size of 20 makes no sense to me.

And since when has anything sensible happened in Indian Aviation in the last 15 years (with the exception of leasing the B777s by AI Big grin)?
