Has it ever happened on a flight or at an airport?

Wasn't there a crash which had no CVR recording because it was suspected that the Pilots Pulled out the CB to prevent recording their Arguement & things got out of hand.

Turkish Airlines had an incident a few year back of the Capt and FO getting into a fist fight on a flight in/out of Bangkok. The fight was broken up by the relief F/O and cabin crew members.

Wasn't there a fistfight in the LGA tower a few years back? I'd love to hear the details on that.  Smile

How about the mentally defective FedEx crew member that attacked the flying crew with a hammer and a speargun; committing suicide by airplane crash so his family could collect on the life insurance...

Do they come any stranger?

This wasn't the level of a fistfight, but if I recall, a contributory cause of a BEA trident crash in the early 70s was supposedly the captain getting into a heated argument with other pilots over a labor dispute before the flight. The pilot was disliked and nasty graffiti about him was scrawled on Tridents. He had an undiagnosed heart condition, and while the cause was pilot error (he retracted slats before he should have) there was speculation that the argument was so heated that he had a heart attack or stroke that incapacitated him.

I'd post a link to a story from airdisaster.com but their database is down.

A TWA Captain decked a AA pilot in the lobby of the Paris Nikko about 12 years ago. The AA guy made a smarta$$ remark and tried to get the hostess to give them the TWA rooms.

Another TWA Captain decked a junior AA pilot in the MCO parking lot after he gave the TWA guy a bunch of $**t about the integration. Funny, no one saw anything in the parking lot or the employee bus that was dropping them off... Big grin It was pretty stupid of the AA guy--the TWA Capt. is about 6'5" and 270lbs. and the AA pilot was a weasley little ***k. Oh well, I guess Darwinism is alive and well.TC

My experience has been that through the use of CRM and professionalism, even if you hate the guy in the left or right seat, you can still make it to your destination without incident....it might be a quiet flight, but you'll make it.

The days of restless idiots in the cockpit are long gone, airlines won't tolerate that kind of behavior anymore, not even from an ex-military pilot* who thinks he is the "god" of the cockpit, as it used to be in the 70's.

*(No disrepect intended to military aviators, just a generalization from that particular time period.)  Wink/being sarcastic

Heard of a "good" one at CAI when the captain brought back the departing airliner to the gate, pushed out the F/O and wanted to depart alone again. Needless to say, he was stopped.
