Hello all I was wondering about weather Pan Am ever served PHX, what cities did they serve from PHX? Seeming they flew to every city in the world.

Thanks Smile

I remember from my timetable collection that PA did serve PHX for a very brief time in the early 80s, I believe it was IAH-PHX-LAX.

Lots of old route maps, including some really fascinating ones from Pan Am. You might be able to see some routes from PHX.

Happy hunting!!  Big thumbs up

Back in 1981, I was onboard a Delta 727 and remember pulling into a gate in nex to a Pan Am 727, which was using a Western Airlines gate. If my memory serves me right, according to the Pan Am timetable, there was only a daily LAX-PHX-IAH and IAH-PHX-LAX routing.

Looking @ Airchives, they show PHX in the 2/11/86 route map as a Pan Am Express operated by Republic Airlines city with it being a DTW-PHX-DTW flight. On a side note, this same route map shows ATL-MEM, ATL-JFK, ATL-MIA as Pan Am Express operated by Air Atlanta, and ATL-DTW was another Pan Am Express operated by Republic Airlines route. They had a quite a number of routes in which they used Republic for, and a number of routes in the Northeast that were operated by Empire Airlines.

Post the merger with National, the combined carrier began a LAX-PHX-IAH flight twice daily with 727-200s. The route dwindled to just PHX-IAH, still twice daily until it was cancelled altogether by 1983, Last time PA operated into PHX with their own metal. As pointed out above, there were later codeshare flights on other carriers.

PanAm did indeed service PHX. I was on the crew twice that I can remember. Our layover hotel was in Scottsdale. I remember that on the first trip I made through there that it was extremely hot, to be specific, when we went back to the airport, it was 115 in the jetway and the ground people had not connected the airplane to ground power. Needless to say the inside of the cabin was sweltering and we delayed until it got cooled down.

Like most domestic cities in the 1980s, PA would start service and end service than reinstate service some years later. Pan Am started and stopped and restarted service to destinations all over the globe during the 1980s, and it is difficult to traqck all the changes to their route map before the demise.
