NW DC-10 At LAX Today

Fri Dec 31, 2004 1:21 pm

Hi,

Went to pick up my wife's delayed luggage from LAX this afternoon, and she actually suggested we park and watch planes land right over us... (Aviation is contagious?). Anyway, we saw a bunch of the usual 737s and such, but around 3:30pm a NW DC-10 took off. I didn't think NW used DC-10s on any route involving LAX. Could this plane have been a sub on flight 8899 to HNL? (shows 767 on NWA's flight status website though). Or was it a charter or something else?

Thanks for the help.

The aircraft went back to MSP as NW flight 26. Probably just an equipment sub.

Thats odd. My first guess was it would be carrying Wolverine fans (University of Michigan) to the Rosebowl, but the origination is MSP rather than DTW. Northwest sent a couple of 744s to LAX carrying football fans from DTW. I remember at last years Rosebowl several 744s and DC-10s were used.
