AA Is Ust Awesome

Sat Jan 01, 2005 1:44 am

Short one...

2 out of 3 flights, Transatlantic, AA gave me free upgrades. Getting Gold status is easy (Gold-Challenge) and then... there it is...

AA is always regarded sub-par... no way... Big grin

I'm happy for you, but these days it's so hard to get free international upgrades on the major carriers; especially if you are only the entry level elite status. This, in my opinion, was a string of good luck. I hope it lasts.

I am Platinum on AA and fly across the pond a lot. But on JFK-LHR the problem isn't really that they don't want to upgrade me. There are very rarely free seats on the plane, especially in Biz/First.

nudelhirsch-

Chances are that they were really cabin rolls aka operational upgrades. That means that coach was oversold and they were in an oversale situation and they were able to upgrade elites just to try and get all the oversales on the plane.

Yes you were very lucky. I know that now when you leave LHR and you want to upgrade you have to pay a luxury tax....also now if you dont buy a full fare coach ticket than on top of that luxury tax you have to pay $250 so you got very lucky

That is not for upgrades "at the gate".

AA has always provided me good service as well. Got a free FC upgrade on my domestic flight last week; I was flying standby on an earlier flight and I guess they felt like accomodating me.

AA has the most disgusting food in economy. Man, my salad has been brown the last, probably, 5 times I've flown them.

The bread can be used as a bouncing ball. And those raising with the breakfast. YECH! What's wrong with Sun Maid?

Totally disagree. The salads are, indeed, pretty stale. Not even that "vinagrette" dressing can help it. However, I just returned from LIM today and I had excellent meals on coach.

Again, agree on the bread. However, those raisins are excellent. Had mine and my daughter's bag as well. Nice, fresh, plump.
I think you meant to say "what's wrong with offering Sun Maid instead?". In any case, the ones they offer are fine.

Considering what I paid for my SFO-LIM round trip at Christmas time, I think the food was wonderful.

The upgrades across the pond are very lucky indeed, not just because your gold, but because AA usually fills most Biz/First seats on their runs with full fare passengers willing to pay the money for that seat. I've flown ORD-LHR, ORD-BRU, STL-LGW, JFK-LHR, and ORD-FRA, and have had nothiing but great service and great food. AA really caters to the business traveller out of ORD and JFK on their pond flights.  Smile My next flight on AA across the pond is March 17th, AA#362 AUS-ORD, AA#86 ORD-LHR to visit my buddy at Oxford. Looking forward to it!!!

Andrew;

The Gold and Platinum challenges are fast track to elite status. They are not widely publicized, but are useful to get status. You only have to do 5000 or 10000 miles in a 3 month period. However discount fares don't earn as many miles, while full fare does. It is a good way to change to AA if you want status, but don't want to wait a year of traveling 25000 miles before you get it. Here is a link someone posted on it a while back
