Will OA's 717 Finally Leave?

Sat Jan 01, 2005 12:21 pm

Snapped up reports that OA is retiring its 3 717 by the end of March 05? Can anyone confirm that? Where will they go?
Thanks

My guess it that they'll either end up @ FL (like most 717s that come onto the open market) or perhaps Germanwings will pick them up. The OA 717s are leased (Bavarian and Pembroke, IIRC), so either the lessors will lease them to FL or Germanwings, or perhaps since they only have a small number of 717s they lease out (They still have unfilled orders for 717s that they haven't even used yet.), they may sell them outright to FL or another operator.

Srbmod,
you make it sound as if it was certain already that 4U will actually go for the 717... And so far there has not been any statement from 4U that that is the case.

If ever, the 717's will go to Eurowings and not to Germanwings....

There's a new mexican start up called A Volar Aerolíneas, they are starting this year with 3 aircraft. I was told that they wanted MD90s or 717s.

@Ghost77:

A little bit off topic, but do you have more information about A Volar Aerolineas? How serious is this project?
Thanks a lot.

Looks like OA's 717s have officially become available by January:

At least the two 717s seem to be SX-BOA and SX-BOB. The third aircraft might be SX-BOC, although BOC was built in 2000, not 2001 as indicated in the link above.

Since mexican government is forcing the sale of CINTRA group next year, in order to 'open' a little more the domestic market and market share, the mexican government is giving authorization to several airlines including AeroTropical, Nova Air, Republic Air, Mesoamericanas, A Volar Aerolíneas and two more pax airlines along with one cargo carrier which so far names haven't been disclosed. A Volar was authorized last October they will start this year with 3 aircraft. And I've heard they were searching for MD90s or 717s and the last option was 737s. Hopefully they get MD90s or 717s!

Thanks Ricardo, I too hope they will go for either the MD-90 or the 717.
