AA Downgrade At CDG, 767.

Sat Jan 01, 2005 3:20 pm

Why did AA downgrade the metal they fly into CDG from 772, to 763? The last flight I could find on record of AA flying 772 into CDG was right after 9/11.

hey,

Last time I was in CDG there where six AA B767-300s on the ground.

AA uses there 767-300, like Delta, on a lot of there European and South American flights.

I think since they have so many flights into CDG from JFK and ORD, and DFW that they don't need one big aircraft such as the 777 to do all of the flights.

With LHR the use the 777 becuase it is a very highly populated route.

The 767 is the transatlantic workhorse for many airlines. Why should CDG be any different than Amsterdam, Milan, Munich, etc? Using the word "downgrade" implies a negative connotation. Why not use the word, "rightsize?" A different way to phrase your question would be, "When did AA rightsize the metal they fly into CDG from a 777 to a 763?"

Maybe I don't understand your point.

AA{s 777s are 3 class, and, therefore, they use them on high F-demand routes. In AA´s case, this means London, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Frankfurt, and Santiago (seasonally). While there is good premium demand to Paris, especially from AA´s gateways of JFK and MIA, AA has to best allocate their resources, and putting 777s on CDG flights does not do that.

I understand from the AA's financial point of view, but from this pax's opinion the AA 777's are a much better place to be. I find the AA 763's and 2's comfortable, but the interiors are worn out! Our seat cushions on a SFO-JFK flight were old and flat (my seatback wouldn't work half the time) and the walls in the W/C dingy. Everything needed to be cleaned or replaced. Expensive I know, but it should have been done a long time ago. The AF nonstop from SFO-CDG is hard to ignore, though I try to fly US carriers whenever I can.

The interiors on the 763's were all redone in the late 90's/2000. They in fact should the same age, if not newer than all of the 777 interiors. There are several 763's that were delivered in 2003

They havent been flying the 772 into CDG for a while now..... really? WOW I think that's exactly what AA777jr, said! are you his echo? Not even on topic there either.  Wow!

Best sums it up out of any of these posts.

The interiors of the 767's may have been redone by 2000. But I find it hard to believe they were using first-rate (or even new) materials. I've flown many time from SFO to ORD on their 767's, and the interior are pretty worn out.
