According to their website, possible future routes for EK and their A340-500's would be...

Vancouver
San Francisco
Los Angeles
Chicago
Toronto

SFO or LAX from what i've read. ORD would be the 4th destination.

The first scheduled routes which they are going to fly on their soon to be delivered A340-600 HGWs are to either LAX or SFO or both--and an additional route which they are looking at is Boston apart from the canadian trunk routes

Toronto won't be until they have some 380s.

EK also has plans to star a direct nonstop flight to GRU - probably its longest flight!

Brasil is suitable as there is a heavy middle eastern community overthere especially lebanese.

I think EK's main priority is getting loads up to a healthy level on the daily JFK run. I was in DXB back in Nov and the holding lounge for the JFK flight can't of had more than 70-80 passengers, I know this is nothing to go by as only viewing one flight won't give a true insight in to loads.

My guess would be once the above is achieved then we would see SFO,LAX,DTW,IAH,YYZ all within 2 years.

I fail to see where EK's pax are coming from on their JFK run, except maybe some low yield traffic connecting to India. Dubai itself ain't much of a draw for the US market, in the heart of the Arab world and fifteen hours flying time away - if you want some sand and sun, go to Antigua, right? The most populated part of the Middle East is to the west of Dubai, so Lebanese, Jordanians etc will continue to use Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, Swiss and Luftwaffe. To India there is all of the above plus Air-India, Kuwait Airways and others. Since EK aren't part of an alliance, there are no FF points of any use (except maybe an affiliation with ANA) - so the AA/GF codeshares will continue to bag the high-yield pax.

As an aside, Emirates won't pick up any traffic to Lebanon if they start serving Brazil, as with flights from N America, Beirut is too far west to use DXB as a transit point - Brazilians and Lebanese travelling between the two nations will continue to fly Air France et al. (Any news on the One World flight that LAN Chile were going to operate on behalf of all, MAD-BEY-DPS-SYD?)

Call me crazy but the IFE on EK is so good on the A340-500's, I'd do SYD-DXB-JFK instead of SYD-LAX-JFK. I wouldn't get bored that's for sure, whereas i might on QF and definitely would on UA. I'd rack up huge amounts of FF points to JFK that way...

Then again I could bring a book! LOL.

Continentalcle~ i'm a native texan too but i really have doubts about Emirates flying to IAH....

i'd put my money on ORD and LAX~ hubs into the US.... but when the 380s are out.. i'd think that toronto would have a pretty good chance... and maybe but a smaller chance Vancouver.

btw.. is Emirates a member of any alliance e.g. Star Alliance? i dont' recall seeing them in any adverts for the major alliances

Any word on the success of their DXB-JFK flight? It's a very nice sight at JFK. Although last I heard they were giving some pretty big promotions which led some to believe it wasn't doing as well as hoped.

You shouldn't.... IAH is a PRIME target for EK in the not-to-distant future.

Hell, even EgyptAir is looking at IAH closer and closer by the day.

if they start an LAX service, I'll fly them LAX-DXB-JFK instead of AA LAX-JFK, just try to them out, with a stopover in DXB and a night at the Burj Al Arab of course.

No doubt Halliburton/KBR has their eye on this as well, with the hundreds of contract workers they're sending to Iraq and Kuwait every week. But for this to happen EK would need to find a US carrier to code-share on this route, to skirt the requirement for travel on a US flag carrier....

BHMNONREV-

I am fairly certain that Continental and Emirates codeshare already on flights into and out of Gatwick. I wonder if Emirates would ever join SkyTeam?

Could very well be, I know EK codes on CO's LGW-EWR/IAH flights, not sure about the other way around.

As far as EK joining SkyTeam, personally don't see it happening. EK seems to like their autonomy, I see selected code-shares like the one above to be as far as they will go...
