Tue Jan 04, 2005 2:40 am

Hey guys,
Global Peace Ambassadors 747SP N4522V flew from SJU to CVG last night. She shouldn't be at CVG too long; she may stop at BWI on the return leg. More info soon.

I believe that is the airplane that Carl Lindner, the owner of Great American Insurance and the majority owner of the Cincinnati Reds, chartered to take a bunch of stuff and people to Asia for Tsunami relief. I'm not sure where they are going over there. Anyone know if the airplane is still there?

FYI: You all probably already know this but, I realized a minute ago while reading a thread in tech ops that the aircraft you're talking about here is the China Air airplane that was involved in a jet upset in 1985.

I would link this story but it's a members only thing, so it might not work..

[World News]: New York, Jan 3 : Former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield is leaving Cincinnati Tuesday on Global Peace One Boeing 747 aircraft with millions of dollars in supplies for the tsunami-hit children in India and Sri Lanka.

K.A. Paul, India-born founder of Global Peace Initiative and owner of the Boeing 747 aircraft, is part of the relief team, which includes 94 medical specialists, search and rescue team members, and other volunteers.

"Our immediate goal is to rescue up to 2,000 children orphaned by the tsunami," said Paul, a philanthropist who was influenced by Mother Teresa and undertook similar measures after the Gujarat earthquake and the Orissa cyclone.

"In addition, we aim to provide fresh supplies and new emergency personnel to our operations centres every 72 hours from now until the first of March," Paul, who has also launched several peace initiatives in South Asia, added.

Part of the team leaving Cincinnati, including teenagers, will work at Charity City in Hyderabad, preparing for the influx of new orphans, while the medical teams will join local doctors in scouring the coastlines of India and Sri Lanka.

They propose to treat the injured and begin the process of moving the children who have been definitively identified as orphans to the children's home, the philanthropic organisation said.

"With God as our help, we will see to it that every single orphan in all 11 countries struck by the catastrophe is adopted," Paul said.

Construction at Paul's Charity City, a children's village near Hyderabad, was completed recently and will enable the organisation to care for additional 2,000-orphaned children immediately.

The home, often called the world's largest children's home, currently houses approximately 1,000 children.

Global Peace Initiative said it needed some 2,000 sponsors to adopt the orphaned children at the cost of $20 per month to pay for food, shelter and education and medical care.

In addition, the organisation is also requesting an initial donation of $100 per child for transporting the children, many injured, from the coasts to Hyderabad and to help defray the costs of new beds, desks, tables and other needs.

Plans are under way to stage operations from a number of cities across the United States including Houston, Atlanta, New Orleans, Orlando and Jacksonville.

Wow All4BWI that's interesting! Also N4522V was here at BWI not too long ago. And yes N4522V was the China Airlines a/c that performed that barrel roll!

Also N4522V was on the local news here in Baltimore (WJZ-TV 13 News at 4)...several interior shots were shown. Here's what I saw:
1. Outside view of relief workers standing near wing of a/c
2. Dr. KA Paul sitting on inside of a/c
3. Photos of seats- they are gray cloth w/blue accents and Global Peace Ambassadors logo on top, look very comfy!
WJZ reported that the a/c was in Hebron, Kentucky...I'm assuming that's Northern Kentucky Intl right?
Anyway it was neat seeing the a/c I'm tracking on tv!

I remember seeing this aircraft twice in Harrisburg...it was in a hanger there the summer of '02, and in what appeared to be open storage in August of '03. When I talked to personnel at the airport about it, they didn't even know what it was there for!! Many thought it was never going to fly again. Glad to see it's gracing the skies again!!

N4522V's former base was at Harrisburg, that's why she was there. They were considering moving it to BWI, that's why she was here before. What happened to that, I don't know.
