US Airways-Time For Systemwide GoFares?

Thu Jan 06, 2005 5:54 am

I figure I should probably throw out this question, in light of Delta rolling out their SimpliFares systemwide.

I would have to agree with you that someone at Crystal City is trying to get these changes made, if not well we all know what will happen.  Sad
Looking forward to the new AA

They'll have the new fare structure forced upon them - so this will be another situation in which US is playing catch-up when they'd rather not.

While US might indeed be pressured to roll out systemwide GoFares right now, the reason they haven't yet is quite simple. They're revenue-negative. (I don't know or care how they've worked for HP or AS, the fact remains that they're revenue-negative for US.)

And US has rolled out considerably more GoFares than people have realized, including a very large number of markets with no competition. About 30% of US Airways' passengers currently travel on GoFares.
I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

At AS, they've worked well. In fact, Phase 2 of our fare simplification is coming this year.*

*assuming the pricing department doesn't do an about-face on this in the wake of DL's new pricing structure

A330323X-Which markets are GoFares markets? I know many flights out of PHL, DCA, and FLL are GoFares, and I know those Pennsylvania-West Coast markets (via Pittsburgh) are GoFares, but which others are?

A330- So they are revenue negative. How the hell can you explain that if labor costs have been reduced so drastically just since September. That's why employees took paycuts right, for a lower more competitive fare structure? Isn't that the direction they want to head with that company come February, with all Go fare markets or what is it? What the hell do they(mgmt) want to do with that airline? Ay, what a poor pathetic mess. I give up trying to figure it out.

Confused The GoFares reduce revenue. The costs have nothing to do with revenue. If US has lower revenue, then yes, it will need lower costs.

This list is about 2 months old, so there are probably a few more markets (and US probably no longer publishes fares in some of the markets that connected in PIT), but I suppose it'll give you some idea:

From PHL: AHN, ART, ATL, BDL, BOS, CLE, CVG, EWN, FAY, FLL, FLO, HHH, HVN, IAH, ILM, JAX, LAS, LAX, MCO, MHT, MIA, MKE, MSS, MSY, MYR, OAJ, OGS, ORD, PBI, PGV, PHX, PNX, PVD, RDU, RSW, SAN, SAV, SRQ, SYR, TLH, TPA, VPS

What exactly is a GoFare? Pretty much unheard of in this part of the world....
