Malev's New Fleet

Thu Jan 06, 2005 11:57 pm

Malev has withdrawn its last classic 737 on Jan 3rd . After delivery of two more aircraft this year, Malev’s will have one of the youngest fleet in Europe. Malev rejuvenated fleet will consist of 2-762, 5-738, 7-73G, 6-736, 5-F70 and 4 CRJ. Malev will also slowly withdraw its F70’s from service and possibly find replacement for there B762’s. For over a year now Malev has been trying to decide whether to discontinue its long-haul service or to buy new planes. Airbus has been pushing for the A332, but I know that the pilots and management prefers Boeing aircraft such as the 777 or newer 767’s. It wouldn’t make sense to add an Airbus aircraft to an all Boeing fleet, but Hungary is a new EU member country. With LOT and CSA both looking for new long-range aircraft, will Malev be next?

RE: Malev's New Fleet

Malev will have to earn some money first before they make a decision on future aircraft I assume. The sale of the airline to private investors failed. Recently they started to shut down a couple of destinations including town offices.
The biggest problem with Malev - they own nothing but red figures. And the state needs to privatize the airline sooner or later in order to comply with EU laws. But what should they sell when there is nothing to sell? New leased airplanes will not help to find a way to operate the airline ecomically....

TWA - we showed you how good we have been!
