Vasp Update!

Sat Jan 08, 2005 4:13 am

Can anyone please tell me what's VASP status?

How many aircraft are they currently flying? How many aircraft grounded? What are the destinations currently served and how many destinations have they dropped in the last months?

The last thing I heard about VASP is that they were cutting their fleet to 5X 737-200's. Can anyone confirm this?

About destinations, it's obvious they'll be serving only a few within Brazil.

I liked a lot VASP's MD-11's. Hope to see them someday back in the air!

Thank god they didn't take LAB to misery!

VASP was suspended by IATA for sales through BSP Germany, with the explanation "Suspension of flights per 21 December 2004" being given...

The relevant release - in German, as PDF file - can be found here:
http://www.iata.org/NR/rdonlyres/epg2lvriymffvjzegzl5tpfimespl6hdl2x4sjgxhn67f2s67ixuucw775uuccyfgyvgwwnrv7m5zp/vaspagenteninformation21dec05.pdf

While I'm not sure if they really suspended all flights, or if that was only a temporary measure, I have not seen any updates by IATA here in Germany, so I can only guess that they are still suspended.

Not a good sign.

The same status as a zombie... I don't understand how they still manage to fly.

Sorry, but I don't have the exact number of aircraft and the exact destinations still served... however, I can tell you that they have been chartering some 732s, most notably to a group of Soccer fans going to a game... they chartered 5 732s on this occasion!!

Their market share in december 04 was less than 1%  Sad and they are cancelling any flights with less than 50% capacity filled.

I liked a lot VASP's MD-11's.

So did I... IMO, sometimes even better than RG's (looks wise).

Thank god they didn't take LAB to misery!

Amen.

VASP is still surviving because of Govenment incompetence in proceed the liquidation of the company.

And there is another serious thing under this issue.... if Government and Brazilial Civil Aviation Department take an action against VASP, than should take over VARIG too, which has a much worse situation.

I have very, but very good information from someone very close to VASP boarding relationship that said to me; Mr. Canhedo is waiting anxiously for a legal action agaisnt him and his company bacause he is going to sunk together with VARIG.

As this Government is a joke and is not conducting the issue with the attention required, than things stay like this.......

JJMNGR,

VP already has 23 legal actions against them. RG has no lawsuits filed against them and has not bounced FOUR Infraero checks (cheque sem fundo). Not to mention a HUGE break from the lawsuit against the government and foreign investors interest in buying a stake in RG. They have also been turning out profits in the past months.

As this Government is a joke and is not conducting the issue with the attention required, than things stay like this.......

Completely agree.

Thank you very much all for your update!!

What??? Can't believe it!

Does VP's market share reduction has something to do with JJ's rise to 41% in the domestic market share? IIRC JJ last numbers were only 34% of MS right?

Well, without being 100% certain and without being in Brazil, I think it is obvious that VP's woes have played a key part in JJ's growth. To me it is pretty clear that there is a correlation between VP's drop in market share and JJ's high numbers.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

If you asked me that question before this numbers were published I would have told you most of VP's pax would go to GOL... but since G3 and JJ have grown so much it's kinda hard to say. Take a look:

Here are the growth numbers for each of the major airlines for the full year of 2004:

JJ- 21,3% growth (the 41% market share figure is for the month of december 2004 only, but likely to stay as high from now on)

RG- 3,6% growth

G3- 28,3% growth

VP- In december 2003 they had 11,95% market share, down to 0,75% in the month on december 2004.

PAX number increased 11,9% compared to 2003 and a 2,5% increase in seats offered. Which gives an average 66% loads for the sector in 2004.

2005 is to be another good year as an increase between 7-10% in traffic is expected.

Cheers,

AS per your username you probably is an RG fan and I respect this ok? But I was fan of PANAM and Braniff and both of them arre no oonger with us...and I continue to be fan of them...

The fact of some like RG is one thing, but the airline is really struggling...
Of course salaries are not paid with checks, but fact is that they are paying with difficulty. 13Th salary not even thinkable....isn´t the samne as a no funds check?

The fact of the economy is doing well not and they are operating with some operational profit, doesn´t mean their situation is going to be solved. If a foreing inverstor decides to throw money out and put this money on a lost fund, just remembering they can´t buy more than 20%.
20% of what? As the airline has a negative patrimony of USD2.5 BILLION? I am not mentioning debits...USD2.5 BILLION of negative patrimony!!!

Their president said in the newspapers they fly to some dstinations for "patriotism"....come on...what kind of company is this? They should fly to where they can make money...

Plese, understand that I don´t want to turn this, a discussion between you and me ok? But RG sucks....

Abraço!!!

JJMNGR,

Let me start by agreeing with you on at least one thing:

Plese, understand that I don´t want to turn this, a discussion between you and me ok? But RG sucks....

Only a difference in opinion, nothing more. What sucks about RG is their management and service... heck, that's the whole company! (except the 777s  Smile ) But look at what I mean:

For the Brazilian aviation industry sake I think we need at least two airlines competing. PANAM and Braniff are gone, but the USA still had DL, AA and UA to name a few. The thing I want to keep from happening is another airline to become too "comfortable", like RG did (arrogant, some would say), and then another new airline starts up and kick JJ out of business... repeating history.

Obviously, not a healthy industry scenario... which began when the military shut down Panair do Brasil back in the day, but let's not go there.

And to fix this problem, constant competition is needed. GOL is an LCC, not really competition for JJ. That's the whole point I was trying to make.

20% of what? As the airline has a negative patrimony of USD2.5 BILLION? I am not mentioning debits...USD2.5 BILLION of negative patrimony!!!

That's why it is called an investment... look at Embraer before they were privatized.

I'm not saying all this because I'm a fan of RG, but because I want the industry to be healthy and see RG and JJ competing as the best way to do it.

Abraço!

I agree with you 100%....RG´s problem is very, but very bad management...let´s wait and see if JJ is not going to operate them....
