MYT DC-10 In ITV1 Drama "Ultimate Force"

Mon Jan 10, 2005 11:16 am

Last night, January 8th 2005, there was a programme on ITV1 here in the UK called "Ultimate Force" starring former Eastenders star Ross Kemp.the programme and the acting was absolutely awful and really was cringe worthy, however, this episode was worth seeing. The drama, based on a fictional "SAS" type force, was set around a hijacking of an airliner bound from LHR to HKG. The a/c used was G-DPSP, an MYT DC-10. The whole thing was filmed on board and showed lots of outdoor shots etc. Im assuming it was all shot at Kemble where this bird is currently awaiting the scrapman. It looked like a very clean, modern aircraft, with all the MYT fittings still in place, the doors worked ie electric, all oxycrews were still in position, and I just think it is a shame that such a graceful aeroplane will never fly again. One thing that did surprise me was that there was an undefloor galley, as we saw the caterers load a trolley into the lift. I never knew they had the lower galley installed. Below is a picture of the aircraft at Kemble, and it has the fictional "Oriental Airways" livery applied.

How sad it is that MYT have stored their DC10s. They were a great aircraft, that the British holidaymakers and crew both loved. They were really good for providing extra capacity on high density routes to Palma and the Canaries in winter. I loved those planes. A few years ago we had JMC, Monarch and Mytravel all operating DC10s on holiday routes, what a pity we dont see them anymore.

All three MYT DC-10-10s have gone from Kemble - they were kept in "live" condition pending a sale anyway. They were registered overseas and departed to Africa, reportedly for Hadj operations.

Skymonster, I'd heard that they were to be converted to freighters after the Hadj flights and are now registered in Swaziland?

On the DC10-10's there sure is!

You have to position the catering truck on the forward cargo door, and push the mobiles into the forward hold, then take a right up towards the nose of the aircraft to get to the huge galley down there.

I loaded a few of them during my time at Alpha Flight Services.

I missed this one, which is a pity.

It is always interesting to see these aircraft based progs.

Even if it means watching Ross Kemp play Rambo.

The female "pilot", a member of the "SAS" team in disguise, was prompted via a subcutaneous implant to first say "Its a DC-10" and then "Its a mark-3" when asked what type of airplane she was on. G-DPSP is actually a DC-10-10, as we all know! Oh well, dramatic licence I suppose!!!

PS: I never knew it was that easy to start a DC-10 engine!!!  Big grin
