Unfortionatly some airlines go for an all white or all metal scheme which is quite annoying. What ever happened to airlines wanting to be apart from the pack with new ideas?

Didn't you know? It'$ like everything el$e. It's not necessarily the prime consideration, with aircraft, but white does reflect heat and an aircraft on the ground for hours on end in most climates quickly become ovens inside if not cooled down, a la your car, right? Cooling uses fuel. Fuel costs money. I don't know what the savings are on aircraft, but by painting refrigerated ships white the owners save about 10% in costs of refrigeration. That can add up to a lot of $$$ if you own a lot of ships. Or airplanes.
Anyway 747-600X, I like white. Just take a look at those Air Canada beauties, those 747s,...........fabulous. Regards, Peter.

I totally agree with you R2D2. An airlines primary concern is to make money for their shareholders (of which I am one of a couple of different airlines), and in this day and age, they have to be 'stingy' with their spending.

QF, AN, NZ, TG, to name but a few have mainly white paint jobs.

I wait for the day that we get a 747 painted in the Austin Powers psychedelic scheme.

Can't you just see the CEO announce to the boardroom, "I want people to look at our planes and yawn!!". I agree. I don't need psychedelics, but I would like to see them spring for some pigmented paint. And I don't mean the BA lame tails, and I don't need America West to go with the Phoenix thing and have their planes lowered with bouncing hydraulic suspension and sparkly paint and tinted windows. Just make yourself different! Even Southwest looks different than it's neighbors on the ramp. Who wants a plane that says, "This plane can be quickly modified for leases"?

Further Griping, Snivling, Grumping...

How can you say those beauties? Someone on this forum said they would like to see a Qantas 777 - see what?! It would like just like every other plane in their fleet: the tail is red and that's IT. Lufthansa is the same (oh - excuse me, they paint the bottoms GREY? What's with GREY?!)... and how about Condor - more bottom coloring... grgrgrg... There's nothing beautiful about looking out the window and seeing nine airplanes lined up and shaking your head thinking you've got nontuple sight or something. Here are some good ones: American, Southwest, United, US Airways, Aer Lingus, KLM, heck - even Apple Vacation's A320's are awesome with those vibrant greens and blues!

Do you think that perhaps the reason why they have white paint schemes is that it is cheaper than putting multiple paints or a lot of paint.

What do all those people here have against white ?!?! After all, a lot of the colour schemes look more elegant now than they used to, and white just fits planes. Okay, so maybe really dark colours can look cool (definitely not United, though) but white is just screaming CLEAN!
HITECH!
NEW!
90S!

I like bright planes, with a bit of colour here and there to provide contrast. Air Canada: Super! Old Virgin Atlantic: Super! The others also look good, as long as they do not have black noses or 80s-type stripes along the sides. White is just elegant.

PS: The person who created the Austin Powers 747 livery should be shot.
