BY Most Punctual UK Charter Airline Summer 2004

Wed Jan 12, 2005 7:33 pm

Britannia were the most punctual UK charter airline of the Summer 2004 season, beating Thomas Cook off the top spot for the first time since 2001.

Big drops in on-time performance for Excel, Monarch, First Choice and Thomas Cook this year.

Well I can believe that, my outbound flight last week left 15 minutes early and the inbound left 5 minutes early. Still I don't rate them that much anymore.

Yes, TCX had a pretty poor year 2004. There was a period when there was just too many aircraft going tech and that arsed up our punctuality record although we have been assured by management "next year it will be different"!!  Yeah sure .

Cheers.

Blame the Germans at TCX  Big grin
Nah, my flight with XLA to DLM was 30 mins late leaving MAN, my SCY flight was 2 hrs late coming back.
But my TCX flights to TFS was virtually ontime on the way out, but early on the way back  Big grin

So things have got better at Britannia since you left them Rick ???

Do you think this improvement in punctulaity is down to you in any way?

Diesel1, how could you suggest such a thing?  Wow!  Big grin
If there was any truth in your statement, the performance of easyJet will have fallen.

easyJet performance 2003 - 18 mins averge delay / 69% on-time
easyJet performance 2004 to date - 14 mins average delay / 76% on-time

To clarify, Britannia punctuality hasn't actually improved since Summer 2003, just stayed the same while other carriers have got worse.

easyJet performance has improved since 2003, however.

Britannia is the most punctual German carrier you mean? They havent been British since they became a traitor, sold out to the Germans and got rid of that lovely, classy livery!

Orion 737, welcome to my respected users list - those were my sentiments exactly!! Plus, they did sting me for £76 the last two times I flew with them, ouch...! Bring back Britannia on the tail!

Hi,

Interesting stuff! I believe that MyTravel's figure will significantly improve now that G-BYDA has left the fleet and some 757/767s are going. I'm bemused as to why TCX have slipped?

Sian

I believe that MyTravel are the only completely British owned major tour operator left. How about FC?

ThomasCook, Id guess it was because of TCX's 330s being stranded over the Atlantic during the Hurricanes perhaps?

Hi,

Yes perhaps, but during the summer I noticed a lot of European delays. Maybe those B757s aren't as reliable as they once where? Its a shame for Thomas Cook to drop down as they worked so hard to reach the top spot!

Pretty interesting, even more so as I don't use charteres at all.

I used to think Excel were the best for on-time performance,if they were, they sure have slipped!

TCX`s delays were due to under-crewing last summer but mainly an unfortunate spate of tech problems. We`ll have `em next year!!!

I used to like Britannia. you used to get a really nice hot meal in with your holiday and they had cute little 737-200s which were very noisy, you ask my mummy. They were better than Dan Air though.

Seriously, I have fond memories of the old Britannia, I wish TUI would take a running jump!

Nice to see NCL as one of the top airports for time-keeping. NCL is going from strength to strength.

Looking at the Thomas Cook Punctuality it begs the question how can they achieve 15 mins average delay at Gatwick and only 6% over an hour late, when the average delay at Manchester was 24 minutes and 10% over an hour late.

The last two Summer seasons show TCX at Manchester had an average delay of 13 minutes. The tech problems can't just be with the MAN aircraft can they?

Oh well let's see how they do in the Winter season, where they also remain unbeaten for the last 3 years.

Rick,
more because Manchester was used to cover other bases when they had problems, contrary to the supposed ideal of each base "looking after themselves" so we were penalised by tech problems at other bases aswell.

Cheers.

Schooner,
Ditto First Choice Airways - aircraft were removed from LGW/MAN as the largest bases to protect small bases where a technical problem would otherwise bring the entire programme there to a halt, as opposed to causing reactionary delays in the main base. Plus the major long-haul delays, and subsequent delays caused by "doubling-up" of B767 flights onto 2 B757s in an effort to catch-up, caused by the Caribbean hurricaines were only experienced at LGW/MAN.

Also, if the flightontime.info figures reflected a true picture of the airline they would include the likes of Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, East Midlands, Belfast, Dublin, Cork and Shannon. A good 20-25% of the airline's outbound flying programme is missing from the analysis...
