Must have been this flight:
-0861/07 N5DL MIA
MLG UNABLE TO
LNDD W/O INCDNT. ACFT OTS, FLT CHEQ/RDPTD.
, acft 5DL, returned MIA
account Right Hand Main Landing Gear Unable to Retract. Landed without incident [obviously it wasn't even a "hard landing"]. Aircraft OuT of Service. Flight CHanged EQuipment and ReDeParTeD.
Civilian passengers often claim a landing was a "crash" when pilots would classify it as "firm" (meaning we didn't get a good flare, but well within the plane's normal operating limits). My worst 738 landing [a couple of months ago] was like that. A number of folks commented about the "poor" [hard, crash, etc.] landing while a couple of USN
folks thanked me for the "gentle reminder" of what a carrier landing "almost" feels like [yep, not quite that hard]. Embarassing as heck, but nobody's perfect...although we try.
