HP Hub Back East?

Fri Jan 14, 2005 12:44 am

Just curious - what happened to all those rumors flying around (as they often do) that HP was shopping for a hub back East?

I'm not sure if they were just A.net rumors, or if they were actual industry rumors, but I've been looking for HP to set up shop somewhere back East ever since they left us here at CMH.

Anyone have any intel?

I think the rumors were banking on US going bust and PIT being wide open. Now that

A. US Airways will be around a little longer
and
B. WN is going to make a splash in PIT

There aren't really any other candidates....

True. If I'm not mistaken, HP had an eye on ATA's gates at MDW but was eclipsed by FL and WN's slugfest.

Wasn't there also talk about HP moving in on IND during that same time?

Other than that, unless US folds (as was mentioned), I can't think of anywhere else, either.

I have to agree if, and that is a if, US goes out then I could see HP moving quick to fill the void where it made sense for them.

Well, HP joined the Chamber of Commerce in CLT last year. So they probably had their eyes on the airport when/if US folds. HP only joins the CoC of cities where they plan to have a large presence.
