Delta Outlines Ticket Acceptance Procedures For Possible USAirways Flight Suspension
ATLANTA, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL - news) today outlined the procedures Delta, Delta Express, the Delta Shuttle and Delta Connection carriers will observe in accepting USAirways' tickets if that carrier's flights are suspended later this week. These special procedures will apply for passengers traveling on March 25, 2000 through the duration of the suspension.
Delta will accommodate as many inconvenienced USAirways passengers and cargo customers as possible, based on the availability of space on its flights and once all Delta-ticketed customers are accommodated. While space on many flights, particularly in the Northeast and to Florida, may be limited, Delta expects to have some availability, both domestically and internationally.
All revenue tickets issued prior to March 25 for travel on USAirways flights, both domestically and internationally, will be accepted for transportation on Delta, Delta Express and the Delta Connection carriers without penalty or administrative service charges during the flight suspension period, if seats are available in the appropriate class of service. The origin and destination of the original ticket must remain unchanged. It is recommended that passengers holding electronic tickets with USAirways secure a paper ticket from that carrier before traveling with Delta.
If passengers hold tickets on USAirways and a Delta seat is not available in the appropriate class of service, they may travel on a standby basis. Travelers may be able to obtain confirmed seats by changing to another flight where seats are available or by paying more to change to a different fare category that is available in the appropriate class of service.
Passengers scheduled to travel on the USAirways Shuttle will be accommodated on the Delta Shuttle, provided they hold a paper ticket from USAirways and seats are available. The Delta Shuttle's Guaranteed Seat Policy will be suspended for the duration of this special ticketing procedure period.
Delta urges passengers impacted in the event of a USAirways flight suspension to be flexible in making alternative travel plans. Delta would very likely experience very heavy call volumes at its reservations centers and urges customers to call during evening or very early morning hours, if their flight schedules permit, to reduce waiting time.
