What Do You Call Concourse D At Your Airport?

Fri Jan 14, 2005 9:43 am

If the gate is A-5, you call it "alpha five"

If the gate is C-13, you call it "charlie thirteen"

If the gate is E-8, you call it "echo eight"

--------------------

What do you call a concourse that is labelled "Concourse D"?

Do you call it "delta"?

Doesn't that cause a bit of confision in the states, particularly if DAL does not operate out of Concourse D?

Do you use another word for D?

Thanks in advance!

Well at SLC, the announcers say Delta, but it probably helps that D is one of 4 concourses that Delta operates from.

At LIT we don't have a concourse D or A,B,and C. I would still call it Delta - eight though. Actually I usually call them by their letters D-8, C-18.

Very true, NW7E7..

most US airports I have been to call it by the letter then gate.. D-15.. and not by Alpha, Beta, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Effen, Gamma.. what the hell is F anyway.. LOL..

F is foxtrot. B is bravo, not beta. G is golf.

Yes, at US airports ground control refers to D as Delta.

I've heard gate agents here @ ATL say "D-29, D as in David 29". This I've heard from the ASA gate agents on E. I guess saying "D as in Delta" might confuse some passengers.

I believe ground controllers in ATL refer to taxiway 'D' as 'Dixie' and not 'Delta' to avoid the obvious confusion.

Concourse D at MSY is actually known as....."concourse D".

When we refer to a gate on concourse D, we call it gate D-1, D-2, D-3, etc, etc.

"I believe ground controllers in ATL refer to taxiway 'D' as 'Dixie' and not 'Delta' to avoid the obvious confusion. "

That is somewhat true. At ATL, there is actually a taxiway named 'DIXIE'. Thats how its printed on the Jepp Charts and the airport signage.

At AirTran, we refer to Concourse D as the 'D Gates' or Dixie Concourse.

This brings up another question, what will happen if someone should start up an airline called Bravo Air? Or Whiskey Air (with free drinks if you know what I mean!)? There's an old saying among ad execs: "There's no such thing as bad publicity."
