Delta's New Paint Scheme (Ugly)

Fri Mar 24, 2000 8:54 am

Well, maybe I like everything of it, except for the tail scheme, I just think it's ugly, it remembers me the Aeroflot's scheme, that for me is ugly too.

I don't have anything against Delta, I consider it one of the best airlines in the world, but I didn't like the new paint scheme, well, just the tail.

Any opinions about it?

Hola, Que paso?

Well the more I look at it, the more I like it. Personally, I think the old one was very boring and outdated and the previous one was a little better but very conservative!

Trust me, my parents live in Atlanta and the people in the South (Southeast United States) are known for being very, very conservative! Not like the people in Los Angeles, where I live!!!!

I love the tail! Its a work of art! I also love Aeroflot's tail. Its a also a beautiful piece of art!
(maybe its me because last year I took an art history class) The white scheme reminds me of Pan Am's livery. Which was once my favorite airline, until they passed away   But now it's AeroMexico!   However, I think that AeroMexico's new livery needs a little bit more color. Its basically all bare metal, except for the beautiful Aztec Man tail. It makes the airplane look nude!

Do you think that in the near future AeroMexico might think of changing it's livery completely? Just like Delta.

I like the everything about it except for the engines. It looks like they forgot to paint the rest of it. It just looks unfinished. Now, if they were to paint the rest of the engine that deep blue, then it would look great.

Not only are the engines half-finished, but it seems the belly is that polished metal-american-airlines kind of thing, which I must admit I think is ugly. Why can't they paint the belly white as well?

The scheme do look ugly to me!!!!!!
To conclude, the scheme looks very incomplete.
the engines looks as if it hasn't been finished painting yet, just like the CX 747-400 engines being half painted, and the dropping white paint at the front looks awkward, looks like leftover from other schemes (I don't know how to express that). The tail actully looks fine, but it just doesn't fit in with the rest of the design.
Anyways, that's just my personal opinion, maybe I would learn to love that after some time.

I agree with Ual747..
I think that the engine have to be all blue and then it would look great.
But the tail(for me) look very good and conservative.

It looks like they are trying to copy the fad in Europe to paint the airliners all white.

The only difference it that the European airlines all seem to make it look GOOD!

Not to say I like it, but I like the metal bottom more than if it was painted all white, as it takes away the bloated will look a little.

Hola, como has estado?

I really agree with you about AeroMexico's livery, I also think that it needs more color, cause as you said, the Aztec warrior head on the tail is great, I like it a lot, even more than Mexicana's logo. But remember that AeroMexico's liveries have last an average of 10 years, so we can't expect a new livery very soon. Anyways I like it, and I'm so happy that AM has finally entered to an Alliance, and Delta and AirFrance are excellent partners.

Do you know anything about what's happening with Cintra, if they are selling AM and MX?

I'd really like to see a new owner of both airlines that would renew their fleets, especially AM, and maybe some widebody Airbuses for Mexicana.
And my dream is that both AM and MX fuse in only one airline, just like what just happened with AirCanada and Canadian, a merge. And I wouldn't mind if Aeromexico merged Mexicana, it would be the strongest airline in Latinamerica.

Greetings from Mexico.

Like BA

For me it seems like Delta wanted to do something like Britis Airways Union Flag livery, the difference is that BA's livery looks great and Delta's not for me.

I Agree With Ual747....

I was saying the same thing to myself over and over again. The engine looks soooo stupid left with the half blue and half gray. It looks like they forgot to finish spraying the dark blue on. If the entire engine was completely dark blue it would look GREAT!

I also think the wording is too large. If they would of scaled it down by a hair it would be better. I also dont think they should of messed with the widget.

You're right. Get an expensive design agency and they come up with a big Russian flag on the tail! Deltaflot lives!

As you say, the more I look at it, the more I like it. When I first saw it a couple days ago, I hated it - to put it mildly. I have now got it as my computer's desktop, and everytime I look at it I like it that little bit more! The tail is very stylish - sort of like BA's Union Flag image - and I like that too. They are both excellent liveries - now.

I also liked the old livery (1997) and the older livery (1962) - but my favorite scheme is the DC-8's delivery scheme from 1958/59. It doesn't have a widget anywhere - it has a red motif reminiscent of the Eastern logo of the same period!

I can understand your point of view, with the exception of one thing;

Coming from the South myself, what exactly is wrong with being conservative? Delta represents the South, and if that is the way the South is, it is the way the South is. Different parts of the country have different cultures.

We love our lives.... (or at least I know I do!) not that I am having a go at you or anything, but I am just saying....

Just my opinion!

Just my opinion but, they sure made a mess of that new paint job! Perhaps it is just one of those things where they couldn't see the forest for the trees, they tried to hard to change it to a new livery and failed miserably. I mean, it is a new livery but one that you should be proud of? I think not.

This is going to be a very popular topic for a while I'm sure. I posted my comments before...but I'll say it is ugly. The tail is ok but nothing spectacular or creative. The rest of it is so naked and bare forget about it...send it back and finish it.

Everyone has an opinion.

I saw this A/C in person up close,it looks great. The pictures dont do it justice. As far as "Deltaflot" goes the flag of the Russian Federation is white, blue and red.The tail on the new livery is red, blue and sky blue.So how anyone could say it is a Russian flag must have flunked

I don't think the tail is bad, matter of fact, I like the tail. The problem is with the rest of the bird... something is just missing.

Now, if AA did a similar stylized tail with their blue, white, and red and blended it down into the side stripes... that would be on hell of a bird!! The current AA tail is just too plain and drab.

i like the "delta" titles on it, but they need a new tail and more color on their livery, i have no idea why they decided to do a tail like that but they need a new tail and a cheat line-fast, i think they should not have changed to that livery because their"older newer" scheme is kinda good looking-epecially the tail, this is only an opinion so you can disagree with it

Hello, Mr. Delta MD-11

When I said that people in the south were very conservative, I was refering and applying it to Delta's livery.

What I am emphasizing here is that such a different and bold livery, which in my perspective is a work of art, is provalby a little too radical for some people. Delta's previous livery was very nice indeed, but was an update of the older version. I liked the previous livery also because it was more modern. But if it were to stay for a long time, it might become a bit boring in the future.

The new livery appeals to me because it represents the future. The Delta logo was shapped to look like a rocket. Which to me it symbolises that Delta is looking toward the future. Maybe Delta will one day fly people to the moon. Who knows?

The tail is just beautifull if you ask me! Its a work of art, and the reason I say this is because the colors are made to look like they are free flowing, not like Delta's old livery which was very formal.

Don't worry. If you ask me, some people in the south have more manners and culture than the more liberal people from the West. So be

Muy bien y tú?

Well, I like the AeroMexico's logo a little more than Mexicana's logo like you. Mexicana's is beautifull and also a work of art.

I really don't know whats going on with Cintra. I have been visiting Cintra's website for updates and to see if the airlines made a profit for the 4th quarter and for the whole year as a whole. But to no avail there is no info for 3 months now!

I hope that who ever buys AeroMexico this year will agree with me about changing the livery. I want it to be nothing but the best. Currently Lan Chile takes the pride of having the best livery in latin America.

NO WAY! AeroMexico and Mexicana should always stay as a separate identity! You see, they both have different backgrounds and both are rich in history.
Besides, the mexican goverment would never admit that to happen.

So hopefully, they Delta will persuade Aeromexico to do the same.....

Take care and good luck!

Russian Flag

Mon Mar 27, 2000 5:35 am

Sky blue and white are almost the same when you include shading and shadowing as in the new livery.

If your info is correct, when you took geography, the Russian flag was red with a yellow sickle on it. The white-blue-and-red is a very new thing. And because it is so new, there will be quite a bit of confusion as to what the order of the colors is. To the average flying American, this will appear to be a Russian flag on the tail. It's that simple. (Of course, the average flying Russian probably won't see it that way, but who's the bigger market for Delta?)

The tail design is ok, but the fuselage needs some work. The plain white fuselage is boring and plain and when the aircraft gets dirty it will look terrible.
