I don't like that 'XL.com' branding on the engine  Sad. I prefered the ribbon-type logo!

Excel started with brand new 737-800s and then leased a quite old 757 and a nearly very old 767 and now a 737-4. What next Ryanair 732 or Mytravel DC10-30?

Those were my exact thoughts Orion737. Will the 734 have leather seats and a 'decent' seat pitch like the 738s?

Hi,

It looks nice and after all the -400s aren't that old!  Big grin I have to say that the new 'XL.com' branding is tacky but I suppose if its just for website purposes etc... it's not to bad.

Horus

The leather seats (I prefer cloth) on 'XL' aren't that comfortable unless you have an exit row. The legroom is also horrendous!  Sad

Next they'll be flying the Kilkenny around! The planes are getting older, XLA are supposed to be doing well though,

Excel started with brand new 737-800s

They didn't!

Excel started life as Sabre Airways in 1994 with a collection of elderly ex Britannia/Ambassador B737-200s, which were followed up by similar vintage ex Dan Air B727-200s...

From 1998 new B737-800s were added to the fleet, but Sabre also obtained some re-engined Super27 B727s alongside these new aircraft.

In 2001 the airline was formally re-branded as Excel Airways under new management - the B737-800s were retained, but even that first summer the ex-Britannia B767s were part of the fleet.

So although they would like you to think otherwise, over their 11 year history the airline has generally operated a fleet of older second-hand aircraft, with the B737-800 being something of an exception!

Does anyone know if Islandsflug and Aviajet are going to be rebranded as Excel Airways for the coming summer season? I think I heard something along that lines when Atlanta first bought them out...

SunCEO,
Aviajet are not owned by Air Atlanta, their only link is that they sometimes use an Air Atlanta aircraft under contract.

The Air Atlanta B767 used in 2003 was substituted for a EuroAtlantic aircraft.

Wow, they must have been quick with the paint because when I flew on that same aircraft operating an STN-KEF flight on behalf of Iceland Express on January 3rd, it was looking like this:
