This is an excellent article, the first one I have seen that gets to the heart of the mechanical challenges involved. Long as the article is, I recommend it because it shows how revolutionary this new building process could be; it's a big change from bolting aluminum!

One of the things that emerges is the sense that all their other lines could see tweaking in terms of materials and production techniques. There's already been talk of making the 777 cheaper to build (a great way to head off competition from the A350), but it will be fascinating to see how this technology could be applied to the other lines, such as the 747ADV.
It is not enough to be rude; one must also be incorrect.

I enjoyed reading the article. As a Boeing shareholder, I'm glad that Boeing is making the leap to the next level of aircraft construction, such as when it introduced the 707.

Considering the difficulty in making fuselage sections for a widebody, one would assume that making narrowbody sections would be easier, simply because of the smaller size.

This bodes well for Boeing to start designing the replacement for the 737NG. A plane with the size and range of the 737NG, but 20% less costly to operate will certainly put a crimp in sales of the A320 series.
