Wow guys!!! I didn't think this thread would evolve so much... sounds like an encouraging start already!
The article mentions that they intend to get a second MD90 by around July 1st, and that although it is an LCC, it's not
a no-frills operation.
And yes - it is a lease from the Swiss operator HELLO. Something along these lines was reported in The Times of Malta in November or December 2004.
Bargain Holidays wanted to start its own airline with 2 A320s a couple of years ago, but due to the competition and the perceived threat this would have posed to Air Malta, the Government did not grant them any rights. Then, Bargain Holidays examined the possibility of starting the company in the UK, but as some of us know, the flights were eventually contracted to and operated on behalf of Bargain Holidays by Sabre, then by Excel, and then by Astraeus (all using B737 derivatives).
Since Malta joined the EU, the Government cannot do anything to stop Bargain Holidays from finally creating Malta's second airline.
I do not like the name of this new carrier, not because I'm anti-British or something like that (I have an English aunt and English cousins), but just as was mentioned above, I would have preferred something more appealing and with some sort of a Maltese connotation.
With regards to their livery... I agree 100% that it is one of the crappiest things I have ever seen painted on an a/c. What a shame! I hope that they change it asap.
It's going to be interesting to see which destinations BritishJet
Although some may think that this new startup may harm Air Malta, I'm very confident that Air Malta will keep doing well. I believe that Malta needs and can support a second carrier. It's going to be interesting to see who fares best. GB
Airways this summer will be operating 11 weekly flights to MLA
using A320 and A321 a/c. It will also operate 5 weekly flights to MLA
(using A320/A321 equipment).
is starting a 3 times weekly A319 service from MUC
with very convenient schedules for connecting traffic at MUC
, and there will be Condor B763 flights on Mondays from DUS
(in addition to the usual A320/A321/AB6 LH
daily flight to MLA
). IIRC MUC
will have 2 Condor A320 flights to MLA
on Mondays and sometimes, this MUC
Condor operation will revert to a single flight operated by B753s or B763 equipment.
Scandinavian will stop its once weekly scheduled service to MLA
and replace with a once weekly service from ARN
. I wonder if they will have any additional charter flights apart from the present GOT
operation on Saturdays.
Interesting times ahead!
