Whats Up ITK,

I heard they were all going to some Russian outfit, but I guess that may be just a rumour, who knows.

Look forward to seeing G-VFAB on the MAN routes.

You are more likely to see G-VAST or G-VTOP on the MAN-MCO route as they are the two LHR based B744s being transferred to LGW/MAN.

Hey there Jetstreamer
Thanks for the info, we were told that it would be G-VFAB, but any LHR based 744 will do, it will be great to finally have an aircraft that compliments the LGW aircraft like the good ol'days.

ITK
I heard today that G-VSSS and G-VBEE after being bought and repainted by the Russian outfit they are still gonna be based at MAN, for what I don't know.

Hi VSFullThrottle,

In time you should get to see VROS/VGAL/VLIP/VROM/VROY/VAST/VTOP all making an appearance on the MAN-MCO route.

I agree that it will be great to offer the same service ex-LGW and MAN especially the Upper Class Suite.

Slightly off topic, but two other classics (G-VCAT & G-VRUM) which were acquired by European are being transferred to Argentina to be operated by A4.

Hi A340600

VAST and VTOP have Odyssey. The LGW girls have just had a refit including an upgrade of the NOVA system to include 16 channels

I know, but cumon' this is very sub standard to the LHR based a/c with V:Port!

Can someone give me a guide of each of the entertainment systems?

Since AirAtlanta Europe owns these aircraft (AND operated them for VS) and they can barely keep up with their charter demand, then why would they sell them???

My guess is that AirAtlanta will NOT sell them, but insted fly them on behalf of another client.
Don't bring up the NW DC9's unless you have to!

Hey there Jetstreamer

Regarding G-VRUM and G-VCAT (Scum and Rat) the farther away they are the better, LOL. I am sure you can agree along with ITK...

Hi VSFT, Virgincrew and Jetstreamer!

Yes good riddance to RAT and CUM! Although I did find the too-low-in-the galley-mirrors due to the previous operators short cabin crew quite amusing!

I also flew G-VRUM empty to DUB once with the gear down all the way, it took two hours to DUB!!!

Cheers

VRUM and VCAT are -267B models, the first two of up to seven for Southern Winds (incidentally, A4 were initially eyeing-up the -219s), making Argentina the first and only Latin American country to boast TWO 747 operators.

A small coincidence I notice is that a couple of decades ago, it was an Argentine carrier (AR) that provided Virgin with their first 747 (G-VIRG, ex-LV-LZD), and now, Argentina's second largest carrier have just acquired their first Jumbo which operated (albeit briefly) for the same company. Small world...

If none of you mind me asking (excuse my ignorance), how come those two aircraft are not, shall we say...fondly remembered? And be honest because I'll be flying on one of them in late March (MAD-EZE)...

Regards,

ZXV

Hi LVZXV,

VCAT and VRUM were great planes. They were just a little cramped with regards to galley space. CX who operated them before us have very narrow galleys at the 2 and 4 doors which made them v difficult to work in compared to the rest of the fleet. That was it really from a cabin crew point of view. Also the pax didn't like the CX business class seats we tried to sell as Upper Class. They were in many ways inferior to our seats at the time.

Cheers

The good old trusty ex Air NZ machines. Does anyone know if any VS B747-219Bs have been scrapped?
