Surprised to see that WN pays $9/hr. for CSA's (ground crew) while JetBlue pays $10/hr.

The payscales for the Rampers/Provisioning Agents & Operations/Freight Agents can be found here-
http://www.twu555.org/contract.html, Under section 28, Wage Rules on Page 67 of the contract.

Rampers start at $10.18/hr & Ops agents start at $10.53/hr.

F/A pay....

"When looking at wages, it is important to know that Flight Attendants and Pilots are only paid for their time when the plane is moving. When you see that a New Hire Flight Attendant rate is $14.67 per Trip For Pay, please remember that the Flight Attendant is only scheduled for 93.5 Trips for Pay per month resulting in gross pay of only 1371.65/mo and are often away from their families 4-5 days a week. Your quoting the old contract. The new contract is $17.43 per trip hour for the first six months, then it increases. Second year Flight Attendants get $21.10. Also there are overtime opportunities, per diem of $2.15 for every hour you are away from home (24 hours a day), and the "A" flight attendant receives an extra $2 for every trip hour flown. A trip hour is 55 minutes.

Uhh, negative. Rampers start at 8.75/hr. Goes up to 10.18 after the first year.  Smile

The WN F/As also make more and more based on their time with the company.

Yeah, Jetblue employees probabbly top out at $10.50. A WN employee tops out about double that.

Nope. They get a 5% increase per year regardless of what year it is. So a ground crew member that has been there for 10 years will make $15/hr.

I'm not saying it's bad that WN starting wages are lower than B6. I'm just surprised that B6 decided to pay some of their employees more than WN decided to pay theirs (based primarily on the fact that B6 is non-union). But then again...B6 pays their pilots and flight attendants moderately.

What? If you begin at $10/hr. and receive a 5% wage increase once a year for each of 10 years your ending wage would be $15.51, not $15/hr.

Sorry if this is what you meant and just rounded off the cents; I had to indulge the labor economist within me.

Woops! You're right, Joe. I forgot that $10 is the starting wage and not the wage after 1 year.

But why would it be $15.51 and not $15.50?

Due to the magic of compounding (think of this as an interest problem); deposit $10 in the bank when you start working and here is what you have at the beginning of each year:

10.00
10.50
11.03
11.58
12.16
12.76
13.40
14.07
14.77
15.51

In short, every year your 5% raise is on a bigger base wage thanks to the raises you received in earlier years.

umm, Jetbluefan1... What city are you getting these numbers from.

JFK and BOS along with a few other cities I believe start at 10.50.
This includes Ground Ops, Customer Service and Provisioning.
Although other cities make less I do believe your pay scale is off.

JFK is as follows..
10.50
11.20
11.90
12.70
13.50
14.50
15.50
16.60
17.70
18.80
20.00

this was following a 20 cent increase a little more than a year ago.

Alright guys, enough about JetBlue, please. Anyway, can you guys just tell me how much per year they make and not the hourly wage. I don't know how many hours they work a year, so can it just be how much a year? thanks

Multiply the hourly wage by 2080 as that is the standard way to get a salary from a wage rate in the U.S. You're looking at roughly $20,000/yr base salary.

Looking at the post by JjBiv, twenty grand in NYC is one slice above poverty. In Dallas, it looks alot better.

Jjbiv,

That does seem about right and it looks like you took in overtime pay at time and a half just to get that number.

I found the following (45 hour work week) -

First year $8.75/hour ($13.125/hour overtime) = $19,250 per year
Second year $10.18/hour ($15.27/hour overtime) = $22,396 per year

Yeah, if you are living in New York you might want to consider quitting your job and signing up for welfare.

And just think the US gov't spends over $24,000 per year for each inmate they keep in prison...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy That should show you how valuable a baggage handler is to society...
