LAN Express Service?

Tue Jan 18, 2005 9:03 am

While browsing through the airline subject LAN Chile at the photo database, I noticed an A319 and 737-200 wearing the statndard LA current (blue top) livery but with LAN Express fuselage titles in place of the usual Lan Chile titles, plus a large "ex" title added at the rear fuselage.

Where does LAN Express fly, and how is their service product different from LAN Chile?

That's cool.

I'll look around for a Lan*Express flight/route map and if I find one I'll post it in here.

They're basically the "no-frills" part of LA, flying 737s, A319s, and A320s on the majority of LAN's routes in Chile. They're the remnants of Ladeco, which due to anti-trust laws or something similar (though I'm not really all that sure - might want to ask one of our Chilean members) was not able to fully merge with LAN.

I think that's what LAN Express is, but I could be wrong.

Hi Tango

LAN Express is the name given by to LADECO airlines. UC was the toughest competitor LA ever had, and it was bought to IB in 1996. At that time, UC lost all the international destinations and remained as a domestic airline only.

more information about the Ladeco, with the story of the merge...:

(see reply 10)

As for the livery, LAN express is getting the new colors as well. Now it flies wothing Chile, plus 2 international destinations: Mendoza (MDZ, Argentina) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG, Brazil).

As Cargo ops, Ladeco still have some frequencies to MIA.

The service: great! in 1 hour flights, you get hot meals and alcoholic drinks and everything.

Here is some report about LEx (as a bonus of this SCL-EZE):
