JetBlue's Next Destination...is This Reliable?

Tue Jan 18, 2005 10:52 am

Well I have a good friend who works for the airport authority here in Norfolk, VA. And I asked him about why a new jetway was being put in here. And he answered that JetBlue plans to begin service here soon. Now since he works for the airport authority is this probably a reliable source? And if this is true, which aircraft type will most likely be used? The a320 or will service be delayed until the 190's are delivered?

Man if that is true, RIC is gunna be mad because I know they've been begging for a LCC for a long time.

No, I wouldn't count on it. They are probably installing the new jetway in hopes of luring jetBlue and they have probably been in preliminary discussions. I wouldn't expect to see B6 serving ORF until well after the EMB-190s arrive.

They are probably putting one in so they can say that they are ready for them and it might be appealing to them because everything is ready for them there. They want to move up the potential city list. It would be a nice city to serve...probably not until the 190's though.

Sometimes I think that all the rumors surrounding JetBlue is all crap. Back when I lived in St Louis year-round, KSDK or the paper would be talking about when JetBlue is going to make its entrance; it wasn't if, it was when. I guess its good pub, but beware, take all JetBlue rumors w/ a grain of salt. Big thumbs up

Here at RIC, we already have plenty of free gates, empty counter space, and $1 million in startup aid for any LCC who wants to dabble in the RIC market.

RIC is the largest airline market in the United States to have NEITHER an airline hub NOR a single LCC with daily flights to anywhere.

I doubt FL wants to play the RIC market because of their buildup at PHF.

I think WN is the most likely LCC to start RIC service. However, if USAir falls, I expect them to turn CLT into the BWI of the South and secure that market.

As far as B6 goes, even with their RJs, there are a lot of major cities (Chicago, etc.) that will be launced way before RIC.

Jmc1975,

some people still think our E190's are RJ's...probably because the maker (Embraer) is known for being an RJ a/c maker...also...RJ is a lot easier/faster to type than E190.  Laugh out loud

We heard rumors around the airport at STL that they were already painting boarding areas on the D concourse. They were supposedly going to start last November. That seems unlikely at this point. Needless to say, the rumors dissapated.

B6FA4ever,
it seems U know a lot from B6, so can U tell us, why da heck don´t Mr.Neleman changes the web routemap?!?!?

all those lines are a bit confusing and very ugly for a company such as B6.

just a comment, nothing personal.

ErikWilliam -- We ALL feel the same way. My hope is that the make the route map like AirTrans (rather then like WN's). Im sure it will happen soon.

Rumours suggest that the next jetBlue destinations (and the last two destinations to be announced before the EMBs arrive) will be Miami and Cancun.

RIC is the largest airline market in the United States to have NEITHER an airline hub NOR a single LCC with daily flights to anywhere.

I doubt FL wants to play the RIC market because of their buildup at PHF.

As someone who grew up exactly the same driving time from RIC, PHF, and ORF, I have wanted to see the following scenario for a long time:

PHF: AirTran
ORF: Southwest
RIC: JetBlue

FL has been in Newport News since the ValuJet days. Once WN arrived at Norfolk, I figured it would only be a matter of time before an LCC came to Richmond. I was hoping for B6 so we could have the "Triple Crown" of LCC's in eastern Virginia, without them directly competing with each other.

For my 2nd choice, if JetBlue decides not to come to Virginia, or goes to Norfolk instead of Richmond, then I'm rooting for Frontier to come to Richmond. They currently serve BWI, and if I'm not mistaken, DCA with direct A318/319 flights to Denver. Even though I currently live in the flight path of ORF, I would gladly drive 90 minutes to catch a direct flight to Denver... it beats sitting at BWI or Hartsfield for 2+ hours.

"I'm familiar with ORF. Which concourse is the new bridge?"

Crap, I just went blank. But its the concourse that has independence, delta, nw, united, and continental. It is the first gate right after you come out of security. There has always been the boarding area there, just never a jetway.

Also, I forgot to mention in my original post. Construction crews are also working in the boarding area. But that already had a counter and seats and all that. So are they possibly fixing it up to jetblues wants?

Based on size, if the E190 is indeed a RJ, A318s, B737-600s and DC-9-30s/717s are also RJs...

It's an RJ because it has four abreast economy seating.

The double bubble design may make the E190 the most comfortable RJ ever constructed, but it's still an RJ.

Hmmm. How narrow are the seats on the Concorde? By my silly definition of RJ I might have included the Concorde!

Its not an RJ, especially when then city of Long Beach considers its weight as a mainline aircraft therefore would require jetBlue to use a slot at LGB. Please compare the following information....

B737-300
Length: 109 ft.
Height: 36 ft. 6 inches
Wingspan: 105 ft.

EMB190
Length: 118 ft.
Height: 34 ft. 7inches
Wingspan: 94 ft.

Your argument about 2x2 seating doesn't work, consider the AvroRJ BAE146 which has 3-3 seating, but its considered an RJ due to technical specifications. Keep in mind the EMB170/190 series also offers the widest coach seat (not only in its own class, but compared to any coach seat available even only larger jets, ie B767).Also, the EMB190 would be the only 'RJ' that I know of that has evacuation slides....

JetMARC-Every BAe-146 I've been in (granted, I've been in a grand total of one, an AWAC BAe-146-300) had 2-3 seating...I remember distinctly because I had the "E" seat on that plane...

Pull up pictures in the database and there are numerous cabin photos with 3-3 seating including Lufthansa and United Express...

SHUPirate1,

if u were on a BAe 146 that had a 2x3 seating then u were on a -200 series

here's an example...

now if im correct and AWAC is Air Wisconsin...then u more than likely were on a 3x3...

even the -100 series had 3x3 seating (for those who were just curious)

B6FA-Now that I think of it, I was on a -200 series...but that was my three flights, six hours, none mainline trip, and I was simply drained by it, so I couldn't remember a thing, just that my bag fit in the overhead bin on an RJ, which is, for my bag, rare...

BAe146/Avro RJ aircraft can all be configured as 2x3 or 3x3 - it is purely up to the airline which they choose. LX at the moment for example has 2x3, BA Citiexpress have 3x3. 3x3 is extremely uncomfortable !

ZW did away with the high-density seating on the all of the illustrious BAE-146's (100's, 200's and 300's). All of them are 2x3 now. They either seat 86, 88 or 100.

P.S. I wish I had a dollar for every "Jetblues next destination..." thread. I can't believe I keep reading them!!!

Cheers,
