ILFC To Order 20 7E7 And 20 A350

Tue Jan 18, 2005 11:43 pm

Mr Steven Udvar-Hazy today confirmed that ILFC is close to finalising an order for 20 7E7 from Boeing and also seeks to buy 20 A350 from Airbus. He expects to finalise the 7E7 deal within a month after a revised offer by Boeing.

He made these comments at the roll-out of the A380 in an interview to Bloomberg Television which is subscriber only.

ILFC To Order 20 7E7 And 20 A350

That's a great pick up for Boeing. Congrats. BTW, Qatar Airways is hoping to finalize an order for 60 7E7s by June. See the link below:

This is sort of new old news but the head of Qatar made his comments at the 380 unveiling today so they're still very interested it seems.

ILFC To Order 20 7E7 And 20 A350

Wed Jan 19, 2005 1:49 am

Story available via Bloomberg and Dow Jones now, some quotes;

By Andrea Rothman
Jan. 18 (Bloomberg) -- International Lease Finance Corp., the
biggest aircraft lessor, may buy as many as 20 Boeing Co. 7E7
airplanes, said the leasing company's chairman Mr Steven Udvar-Hazy.

``We're in active discussions with Boeing,'' he said. ``They
are coming in with a new offer, and we hope it will progress as
the weeks go by.''

Udvar-Hazy said in the interview that he is also in talks with
Airbus to purchase 20 A350 planes.

All out there now, he also speaks of Options for both models in the interview. Given the conservative stance of ILFC & GECAS towards ordering without having placed the airplanes since 9/11 It'd be interesting to see if they announce who they'll be Leasing to when they order.

ILFC To Order 20 7E7 And 20 A350

Which version are they ordering; could they be the launch customer for the 7E7-9 (which seems to be the one QR is interested in)?

The 7E7/350 order may also allow ILFC to take back older aircraft it has leased to various airlines and replace them with 7E7s (or A350s). I would expect Aer Lingus to be in its sights, since EI's A330-300s are leased from ILFC and it has expressed an interest in both the 350 and 7E7-9.

ILFC and GECAS should both be big customers of these aircraft going forward. It is logical and business smart for all US airlines to lease these aircraft since they do not have the upfront cash to pay for them directly, and they are already in debt up to their eyeballs. The problem with sold out production slots for 08 and 09 will shortly hang over Boeing's head though. I can see many airlines leasing these aircraft in the near future instead of laying out a whopping $125 Million + for each frame.

Boeing doesn't care since they get the money from the lessor either way at delivery and they then have minimal risk by not leasing it themselves to any particular customer.

Wow 80 orders from only 2 carriers for the 7E7. This is going to be a good year for the 7E7.

It is still early though. We still have to wait to see what Qatar does and then also see if Singapore makes a decision later this year.

If B does stretch the -9 to 280-290 seats and deliver by late -09 ealry -10 then you will see a pick up in orders from big name carriers I think. It will hurt hte 350 tremendously especially if it is priced below the 350 (I don't see why it won't be). It will also hurt the 772ER a lot but by then Boeing might rather want to sell the 772LR/773ER.

I think this is going to happen (the 280 seat 7e7-9 that is) The airlines that are demanding this plane are just too important to ignore.

Leahy said the 7e7 is just too small.

Boeing is making adjustments to the 7e7-8 to put in 6 more seats.

Boeing is considering pulling forward the 7e7-9.

They're reacting to what the customer wants. Not what Leahy says they should have.
