Iberia Signage At T3 PHX

Wed Jan 19, 2005 1:22 am

On previous trips to PHX, I noticed that Iberia was listed on the T3 airlines exterior signage. However, there were no additional signs of IB operations in the terminal (interior signage, ticket counters, etc) and I have never heard of IB even considering PHX service. Furthermore, I don't think T3 has any international arrival facilities.
On my last trip, however, I saw that Iberia had been painted out of the list of airlines on the exterior signage. Can someone explain this scenario?

Sounds bizarre. IB operates flights to three destinations in the U.S.:

- JFK
- ORD
- MIA

It must be a codeshare AA.

I have noticed SEA also has a lot of signage of carriers that do not serve the airport. Looks impressive to see the abundance of foreign carriers signage.

That's one of my biggest pet peeves ... airports that list codeshare airlines in an attempt to make themselves look more 'international.' For several years, my home airport (DFW) had a Qantas logo panel on one of the terminal entraces, as though you'd find a QF 747 parked at Terminal 2W.

If I had my way, only airlines flying their own metal would be listed at the terminal entrance. In this day of codeshares, alliances and cooperative services, I guess that doesn't make sense anymore.

To reiterate the earlier point - no, Iberia only serves JFK, Chicago, Miami and San Juan. I'm surprised there's no MAD-LAX route, but IB must be content funneling those passengers through on American.

You'll also see signage for Northwest/KLM at T3 as well. Never did notice the signs for Iberia, but I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention.

You should take a look at the signs for British Airways at BUR. Now, a 744 or 772 will never fly regularly on a 6800 foot runway across the atlantic, but BA has their deal with HP and the name is put there.

Yeah--its strictly codeshare--pulling up to IAH you'd think it was LAX or JFK according to the signage.

Interestingly enough, it was none other than the "patron saint" of AA, (Saint) Robert Crandall who proclaimed the truth about codeshares a mere 10 years ago: codeshares are deceptive.

...I won't even begin to go into why codeshares (as practiced by the legacies) are deceptive not only to pax but also to the airlines who seem to categorically assume that codeshares enhance net revenues when, in fact, codeshares legacy-style are nothing more than a classical case of "the emporer's clothes" syndrome.

The same goes for OAK, but that airport is a joke anyway.

QF signage also appears at American's terminal in Boston, as well as on road signs, and on the shuttle buses. I've never understood it as it's been there for years. KLM is also mentioned as well, however only on the buses. There are no signs at Terminal E mentioning KLM, just Northwest. And no other codeshare airlines are given signage other than their logo at the partner airline's check-in counters.
