B6 Formally Announces More Transcons

JetBlue formally announced today (besides the new IAD-SAN service) additional non stop coast to coast flying. One additional round trip being added to the following city pairs: JFK-ONT, JFK-SAN, JFK-SJC [previously announced], JFK-OAK, JFK-LGB, IAD-OAK, IAD-LGB, BOS-OAK, BOS-LGB.

All I can say is it's about time ONT regains it's second daily JFK flight. As some of yoy may recall it was axed shortly after 9/11.

The eight JFK-LGB is needed. The other frequencies were either previously on sale or are just the regular summer additionals. Surprised JFK-OAK is only up to 6 instead of 7 though...

I'm really surprised that they're putting another route out of IAD since they stated that they'll halt all expansion until they see what happens with FlyI/UA.


They know what's happening. FlyI is faltering.

They have flown FLL-LGB since May 2002.

I'm also a bit surprised that they haven't announced PDX, or at least another west coast city, especially considering that Southwest/ATA lists PDX-BOS and PDX-LGA as codeshare routes (once WN's new PDX-MDW flight comes online on 4/3).

I'm not convinced that PDX-BOS is necessary, but PDX-JFK would certainly be a winner for jetBlue, especially considering the market here. People here have embraced entrant carriers, particularly when their service offers something different, like F9's service to DEN, which has been quite popular.

I think the problem with PDX is the cost of flying there .. at least from what I have heard. Though, I cant imagine its any more expensive then JFK, DEN, SLC, etc.

DEN is extremely expensive to operate from.

PDX, at this point, is "high hanging fruit" for B6. It is far more cost effective to add service in existing markets -- where demand for more flights has already been established, and new city startup costs behind -- than to venture into new markets where neither of these favorable conditions exists.

Just the same, it would not be surprising to see B6 open PDX on a "test the waters" basis with a single daily redeye nonstop to JFK in the not-too-distant future.

Well then im sure there must be a good explanation as to why they havent started PDX -- im sure there is more money to be made elsewhere or a logistical problem.

Not enough planes perhaps. They are coming and B6 is matching demand accordingly.
