Accra Airport To Build Aero-bridges... Finally

Wed Jan 19, 2005 9:26 am

THE Ghana Civil Aviation Authority(GCAA) will instal new flight information display systems, close circuit televisions, baggage identification display systems, common user terminal equipment and public address systems at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by the end of February this year.It would also install aero-bridges at the passenger terminal.

how long does it usually take to build them?

Now all they need is a working national carrier and they're good to go.

Airfrancejfk, you beat me to it. But when you think about it, ACC is in a good location to act as a connection point to many places in West Africa, and while there is no local airline, they are looking at remaining (or being more) attractive to future services.

What about any improvement in the arrival-customs area? I remember from the only time I went to ACC that it was quite a mess as both BA and LH landed within minutes of eachother, and it could have been worse I guess, since many pax had gone out of the LH in LOS.

Especially since the troubles in the Ivory Coast -- and specifically Abidjan (ABJ). Ghana got a huge boost in maritime and transit transportation (for goods destined to/from Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger) after the Ivory Coast split in two.

I always though ACC would be a good airport for a West African airlines -- with Dakar, Freetown, Banjul, Bamako, Monrovia, Ouagadougou, Abidjan Conakry to the west and Lagos, Kano, Cotonou, Lome, Douala, Younde, to the east. Much like the routes of Air Afrique -- but with ACC in the center (not ABJ) and run much more efficiently.

Best,

GH use to connect a good about of pax from EU-USA to freetown and other places. Lome is two hours drive and there has been an increase of passengers driving from Lome, Togo to use ACC airport. some buses operate from LFW to ACC to connect to ME, MS, LH and many other flight. if GH doenst start operation soon someone will start. Antrack airlines is a dmostic airline in ACC and now started to serve international cities from ACC to LFW,COO,ABJ,FNA,monrovia. they started operating a week or so they fly propellors i have got pic of them not in databse tho (just 1). ET now benefits carryuing passnegres between acc and other western african countries.
Charter flight have also boomed with monarch, flyjet, hamburg international, britannia and many more offering 1-2 weekly flight at very competitive prices (£299 from UK) compated to the £500-600 from other airlines
