Air Canada New Colours And Paper Items

Wed Jan 19, 2005 9:59 pm

Hi

I am flying LHR to YVR next month the outbound aircraft is a 767-300 and inbound an A340. My first question is what are the chances of flying on an aircraft that has be repainted in new colours.

Second question does anyone know if they have reprinted bag tags, ticket wallets in the new colours. Also does the inflight mag in the fleet section have the aircraft in the new colours?

Any information would be great

I've flown a couple of times in the last month, and nothing has changed with the enRoute magazine. It does show a 763 in the new colors, but nothing else so far. The ticket folders are the old ones with the dark green colors.
If you are flying in Feb, then the fleet pictures in the enRoute mag may be different, but I would say we will be using the old ticket folders until the stock is empty.
I'm not even going to guess if you are going to fly on one of the a/c in the new colors.

There are only a couple of 767's and 1 A340 painted in the new scheme so far, so the odds are pretty slim. AC has been fairly slow in painting the aircraft - no A320 series yet, no RJ's, no A330's as far as I know. Perhaps they don't have as much money as they thought.

AC will be fully repainting aircraft as they come in for reg. maintenance.
It will however, begin applying transitional stickers on the tails of aircraft starting the next couple months.

Is it to late for them to go back to the way they were?

There are 2 B763s, fin #639 & 652, and 2 A343s, fin # 905 & 906, are all painted. I have heard fin 981 is in being painted right now and fin 621? a B762 is done. The RJs will not be painted since they are going to be transfered to Jazz in the near future.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long do you think it takes to repaint an entire fleet? The repainting is continuing at the time-frame set out. It's not a matter of money, you don't park all your acft just to repaint them, you have to schedule it around the operation.

As for the original question, bump it up a few days before departure if you can and I can check to see which fin is scheduled to operate the flight. (although this may changed due to operational requirements)

Well, I was joking about the money, you know. AC's paint shop is in YYZ, and the aircraft are normally painted after they've been through heavy maintenance - in the case of the A320, mostly done in YWG.

I don't know when they're going to start painting A320's in the new scheme, though I assume it'll be soon. Almost all of the A320 series has been painted within the last two or three years, so it'll be a long time before the old scheme is gone.

I think the tango machines are the first on the 320 paintjob list. You know, there is no sence in advertising for a dead airline...

Saw one of the new paints at LHR on the 10th, really looks great in person. Friends had flown YVR-LHR-YVR on AC at about the same time but in old livery on their 340/330 (they weren't sure which, and apparently couldn't count past 2)

As I have mentioned in other posts, the first A320 to be painted will be former TANGO FIN#410 in early Feb, then followed by 7 other Tango A320's every 9-10 days afterwards.
As for 762 FIN 621, I did'nt see any paint shop visits on the maintenance sked for this a/c. FIN 611 is slated to be the first 762 to be painted in the new scheme in April.
Whiteguy is right, A340 FIN 981 is in the shop now, and then 902.
We will see the first A319 painted in April as well. As for the A330's, it will most likely be 2006 before we see any of them painted.
Basically for the rest of 2005, we will see many of the A320/319 fleet painted as well as a couple 762's, A343's and some 763's. There are no A333's, A345's or A321's slated as of this time to be painted.

This is kind of random, but does anyone know if there are any plans to give new fin numbers to the ex-Tango aircraft? To number them in the 200 series like the original AC A320/A319s.

And about painting the A321s...doesn't rumour have it that AC is very underwhelmed with the 321 performance and may return them?

Thanks.
