After A380 Ceremony...What's The Next Step?

Wed Jan 19, 2005 10:55 pm

On Tuesday, January 18 the Airbus A380 was revealed to the world to a reception of thousands in Toulouse, France. It was a positive step in the right direction, and it showed progress. However what happens next?

Will the plane featured on the 18th (F-WWOW) be also the first A380 to fly?

What is going on now in preparation for the first flight? When will the first flight be?

I believe they have to go do the ground/static testing next, then the test flights, then certification, production and first pax flight.

It is still the ugliest airplane I could ever have immagined.

Not ugly, just "stubby." According to the A380 chauvanists that will soon be remedied by the forthcoming A389.

Lots of testing is what is next. It's just about impossible to build a new plane without a few teething problems and now is the time to find them - before they go to the airlines.

@ AlitaliaMD11

there is no fixed date for a first flight. actually, there never is. You're not going to rush a plane into the air for the first time, when u think it could use a few days more work...

But you can be pretty sure that it will be during the last 2 weeks of march...

Alitalia MD11

I also want to go see the first flight, but I will need a specific date so I can get the tickets ( I can buy them now for the 31st for 30 pounds return on easyjet!)

Maybe we could arrange a little TLS meeting with more fellow a.netters that want to be there as well!

Cheers

I was hoping to see an exact date. I will be in France the second week of April. It will an amazing sight to see this aircraft fly.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
