Looks like they hope LIS will work as a destination, was it successful for AB Airlines and Go Fly?
U2 are keeping away from it at the moment.

Also Manchester to Madrid and Almeria! New are also Birmingham to Alicante, Faro, Malaga and Tenerife.
I do like the gatwick to Lisbon and Granada! These comes after Ryanair announced its own STN to Granada.
These are scheduled flights.

i seem to remember that Go terminated their STN - LIS schedule citing high airport charges at LIS as the reason. Are airport charges at LIS high?

Hopefully Monarch will be successful on the route.
next flights : BD LHR-TXL J, FR SXF-STN Y, SN BRU-LHR Y, MA LHR-BUD Y, BA BUD-LHR J, BA LCY-SNN-JFK J, BA JFK-LHR J, BA

It seems that Monarch is concentrating on developing their low-cost-with-full-service scheduled operations at the expense of their charter operations. They do not appear to have any new aircraft on order, so where are they getting the planes for their new routes? A further cut back on charter operations?

Most probably they are cutting back on charter flights, and making them scheduled instead, whilst adding some new destinations.
I like their strategy. After all, the mood of holiday makers seems to be moving away from package holidays, and more for independent arrangements.

BTW, Monarch is no longer "ful service". You now have to pay for your food and drinks. At least on the scheduled services.

Glad someone pointed out that Monarch is no longer a full-service carrier. Their crown service was really good but now there is nothing to differentiate them from the likes of Easyjet and bmibaby, except perhaps the price, as whenever I have checked, these flights are not that cheap, considering we no longer get fed and watered.

I dont know who is going to fill all these extra flights to Spain that ZB, FR and Easyjet keep launching!

Orion, although Monarch cut their free meal and drinks service, you still get newspapers, hot towels, free pre-bookable seating and IFE, so although small, there are some differences.

They charter business is suffering a lot because of the schedueld. This year is the first ever that will see schedueld account for more than 50% of the overall business, so that says it all really. The punctuality on charter is poor and getting worse. Last summer the BHX base went to one A321 instead of two. I had to fly EAF instead! They're still a great airline, but I hope they dont lose sight of the charter business, its what put them where they are after all!

So it seems Monarch is nicely filling the void that Air Luxor left behind. Glad to see more LCC's at LIS...

Why no expansion of their Scheduled service from LTN?

Pitty to see the expansion going to LGW as usual at the expense of LTN. Would be great to see a Lisbon service operating out of a north London Airport.

GilesDavies, that's what crossed my mind as well. If they would fly to LTN or STN, one could make tons of LCC connection all over Europe. LGW is not a bad start though...

I sure hope that this route works out for them.

I used to have to travel to LIS from London on a regular basis. I used Go quite a few times, the flights were always full so I never understood why they dropped the route. It went from 2 flights a day to 1 to none!

I guess other routes made more money than this.
