The Coast Of Iceland From The Air

Sun Mar 26, 2000 1:19 am

If anyone has the luxury to choose their transatlantic carrier based on more than just convenience, I heartily recommend taking Icelandair through Keflavik, simply because of the beauty of Iceland from the air. Glaciers run right up to fjords-- the desolation is eerie and astounding. Get a window seat!

Hi all

I flew over Iceland on my way to Edmonton about 10 years ago. Flying on a Canadi>n DC10.

I have to agree that flying over Iceland and Greenland is very exciting indeed. Iceland is so barren and brown in colour and Greenland, well....looking at the mountains, glaciers and snow you only but wonder what can be down there lurking in the snow !

I agree...very eerie. .....get a window seat

Yes, the views are great. I took a lot of pictures. And Keflaviks airport-terminal is a nice one.
But - Islandairs 757s are hardly the right type of plane for a longdistance-flight.

On one LHR-SFO flight, I recall flying over Iceland--all I remember was flying over what could have been the most desolate looking area in the world--until we hit Greenland! But wow! Greenland looks GORGEOUS from the air!

i loved travelling to Iceland last March aboard Icelandair from JFK. i also travelled inner-island aboard an Air Iceland (Fokker 50) and Islandsflug (Dornier 228). I was also on a LHR-LAX flight in which we skirted the southern coastline of Iceland but you can only really see the beauty if flying in or out of Keflavik or the Westman Islands.
